it seems like flu season is starting, that means hell for those unlucky and actually catch it.
personally i have an autoimmune disorder that just adds to the cluster fuck..
that being said, does anyone have any decent flu remedies (other than the basic OJ and ibuprofen)? please share
You already caught the flu? If not, flu shots do work. Though maybe with your condition that's not an option? I'd ask a doctor if you haven't already.
Also, the orange juice for sickness is a myth. All studies of vitamin C have shown no correlation to improved immune system or shortening the time you are ill. When you feel better after drinking juice, it is because you are getting a sugar rush. Sorry to have to break the bad news.
Washing your hands regularly is probably the best way to avoid catching the flu. Every time you touch something that has been touched by somebody sick, you are getting exposed (door handles, money, etc.).
If you're already sick, keep your fluids intake high as you will get dehydrated quickly. Soups are good for this (but not cream soups because dairy will increase mucus production which will worsen congestion and runny nose).
Cold medicines (like pseudo-ephedrine) tend to work by drying out your sinuses dramatically but will also exacerbate dehydration. Tylenol (acetaminophen, DO NOT MIX WITH ALCOHOL) or aspirin will help with fever. Can do both acetaminophen and ibuprofen together if you are really suffering, but avoid aspirin and ibuprofen (they will be doing the same thing). Always take ibuprofen with food of some sort, on empty stomach, it will eat away at stomach lining and can lead to ulcers.
Best to make sure you get enough sleep. This will have the biggest impact on how long you are ill.
