Yeah and feature creep has nothing at all to do with the delays.
Feature creep has been horrendous for Star Citizen, as well as several bad starts with third party development houses before they were able to acquire former Crytek employees (Frankfurt office) as well as expand their own development staff. While a lot of the art assets can be retained and are universal across software engines (besides the rework and updates) they have had to do a lot of tool making and engine enhancements due to the massive scope creep. Crytek is a great graphic engine for small scale fps but was never made for the map scale, player counts and item resources they are attempting to make it work with and all of this development takes significant amount of time to accomplish. In fact I would wager if they had to do it over again they would have opted knowing the scale of the game as it currently is to create their own engine from scratch as it would have been quicker. But such is hindsight.
