It's not the most expensive game that Epic gave away for free but I do not remember such problems with it being down so long in past...guess GTA V still is good game after all those years

I'd guess you need the Epic Games Store + an epicgames account, with 2FA enabled to claim it. So it would run through the Epic store app.
Q to others: does it also need the rockstar games launcher as well, or is this separate like the one you get on steam?
