That’s exactly what I thought! S42 just shouldn’t even try to compete with GTA6. So S42 has to either release before the end of the year…which won’t happen, or delay their release until about 1 year after GTA6 releases.

Funding size it doesn't have to, however Rockstar has to hope that their pre-sales match their development costs and this game title is old. I know it's a great game, but it's a game that's on it's 6th version with no real shakeup on the gameplay style.

Doesn't matter. Rockstar will recoup their development costs in no time. GTA V made $815 mil within 24 hours of release and has since made over $8.5 billion.

I'm not the biggest fan of Rockstar and their games but they know what they're doing and what the fans want. They'll make their money.

In all seriousness, no game dev wants to release within a 3 month window before or after GTA, its a guaranteed no-sale for them.
Honestly, I wouldn't even want to release within 3 months before / 6 months after. People are really going to play that game, and play it hard.

The other suckage is going to be every other big game wanting to not release around GTA VI either... I see a glut of games releasing early in 2026, or very late in 2026.

Assuming GTA VI doesn't get delayed even further! lol

Question is how much longer can GTA/RDR continue to draw a crowd scale wise? Bethesda is in the same boat, same game over and over again, different IP's. There will be a point where GTA can't provide what a player wants because they've reached the limits of the scope and would have to change the game drastically, potentially losing a mass of players in the process.

Let's give an example: What happens when GTA has the entire state/country/ world to drive around in, after that what's next? Can't turn GTA into SC obviously. Fallout and Oblivion are in similar boats but have an opportunity for Death Stranding to continue on, however Bethesda needs to quit with the mile wide inch deep games they make. Games like E:D, NMS and SC are already deep and growing deeper. I think Bethesda is scared to put themselves out there by challenging their own standpoint on how their games are made.

All fair points.

The thing though is that Rockstar’s games aren’t necessarily meant to appeal to us….That is to say the hardcore PC gaming Sim crowd. They’re meant to appeal to the console gaming masses who outnumber us by a fair amount. As it is this demographic is perfectly happy with Rockstar’s offerings. This might change in the future but not for a couple more console cycles.

It doesn't look like it will even be available on PC for a while after release. GTA V took what, a year before moving on from consoles to the PC? So for gamers like me that can't shoot for shit on a controller, it's going to be much later than May 26th before it becomes a thing for me.

Also, trailer 2 came out. I'll admit, it does look crispy.
