In case you didn't know, it appears that an Oxypen restores a 24 minute supply of oxygen.
Just TESTed: had 12 minutes of supply left, then used 1 Oxypen and got 36 minutes; then used one more Oxypen and got 1 hour supply.

P.S. We need Beerpen introduced into the game, so that we can TEST it šŸ»
Never knew it! Thanks!
I never had the chance to use one, when I died of suffocation it was always in a supposedly breathable atmosphere on planets. Mostly inside shops lol.

How many Oxypens can one reasonably carry?
Depends on the space suit. the range seems to be 1 to 5? Plus you can currently carry more in inventory but you'll probably die before you can use them. You can die of a stubbed toe in SC right now.

Remember internal inventory is not yet implemented so we can carry everything currently. Its not until Q3 that we will see the first implementation of physical inventories and will start to truly know how much stuff we can carry around with us.

So for now, 5 pens is an additional 2 hours. Sounds like enough for many long distance jumps in birds that don't have life support for the folks aboard.

Is a key gaming dynamic in the making. Means for emample you might move a huge squad with a Lancer? Have to wait and see.

There are few other things that could be considered to extend the supply, like:
  • The oxygen tank in a space suit - currently it's all the same across all the suits, but maybe some suits could store more oxygen.
  • The medipen/oxypen interchangeability: it looks like medipen and oxypen are the same, so you may be able to use medipen slots for oxypen (and vice versa).
  • The activity type: if you walk in a pace that does not raise your heart rate, you would consume less oxygen. E.g. if you run, you will run out of oxygen much faster than if you walk (and so you may be able to cover a much greater distance if you walk, just will take time).
  • Another observation from the space suit type and activity type is quite interesting: the initial thought is that exploration suits should be able to store more oxygen than a flight suit or a combat suit. However, in combat (and in flight combat as well, where there is no life support system in a ship) you would run and do some intense physical activity (or in combat flight you will be countering significant G force), which required a lot of oxygen. So, combat suits may actually require much greater oxygen supply. On the other hand, if a suit oxygen tank can explode if damaged, - such a tank souldn't be large or should be well protected in a combat suit.
  • A larger oxygen tanks (larger than oxypen size) could be used, especially for exploration.

This is why you pay the fee for air when you enter most shops. People expect too much for free nowadays, all this damn entitlement! :3
