As Im typing that Im realizing the bike is almost 20yrs old!
Has there been any changes besides the different mode selections?
Not really, just aesthetic, the panel's updated a bit on the Gen 2, + modes. The modes are pretty useless, only time I drop to B or C is if I have a pillion/luggage and it's raining. No ABS on my '08, think that was added from '13 on. They kept it more or less faithful to the Gen 1, why fix what ain't broken?! :)
