Can we pay you to bring some NYC pizza with you to TEST HQ? :D

Also, I'd almost forgotten about GTA:SA multiplayer. Can you share some of your experiences with that? How did RP work? I'm guessing you're also hoping GTA Online will have time to improve before it sees a PC release?

If we're running a convoy/escort mission and someone says over the chat channel. "All you had to do was follow the damn train, CJ!" I'm going to know who said it, haha!

Well, the server I was on was LS:RP, it was basically open world RP in the city of san andreas. Everything is IC, when I was there the server maximum was 100, and was increased throughout my time there, 150, 200. I believe it's at 500 now. There were mafias (one of the longest running ones was the Valenti crime family), gangs (I was part of one called Seville Boulevard Families), LSPD, Sheriffs, at one point an FBI, a news network. It took me about a year to become a member of SBF as an initiated member (getting my colors). The server administration specified a certain number of legal and illegal factions as official, which granted them special privileges. Privileges such as an OOC faction chat, ability manufacture drugs/weapons, locked skins. Gangs were given drug shops, mafias weapon shops. Few official factions lasted for a long time, there were a few exceptions that managed to have staying power.

During my time there my longest standing character was with SBF. I developed him from a teenager into a gangster in his mid twenties. It was the last character I RPed on the server. I developed him for about two years before ultimately getting killed by gang leadership for trying to ally myself and my crew with a rival gang and take down SBF and the turf. That was when my character was CKed (character killed) and I left the server.

I also had RPed in a japanese mafia for about a year, also getting character killed eventually due to an internal feud with another character. Good times, I had a few fingers chopped off before eventually being forced to kill myself by the leader. The rest of my time there was as a cop and detective within the LS-PD.

Wow, I didnt even know GTA SA Servers were that Hardcore, must be awesome for immersion. Hopefully, we'll be able to do something similar in SC. Welcome to TEST!

Wow, that's really amazing! RP that hardcore is pretty unprecedented. It's really awesome that there were such persistent factions and characters. Was this an everyday, several hour level game, or did you do things less frequently. It's also strangely a reminder that not everyone can be a Tony Montana or Michael Corleone. If you cross the wrong people or even just make the leaders suspicious, you'll end up in a ditch or floating in a body of water.

How did you handle aging? Gradually changing your appearance to fit aging?

Also, just thanks for sharing that! I can only imagine what RP possibilities there will be in Star Citizen!

Levels were fairly meaningless though tabbing to see the player list, everyone had one which corresponded to hours logged in. It was an everyday several hour thing for me as well for many of the players. Immersion was broken plenty as one would expect from less serious players. I left before the server got really big, but there are always people clowning around who will try to break the immersion. LS-RP had a very active and sizable admin team and there was always one admin logged in. Though, one person can only handle so many things.

Some people decided to RP aging, others didn't. It was very much up to the individual. We had one guy in SBF named Tyrese Kartel who we brought up. He was just a new guy on the server walking around Ganton. Me, two friends of mine and a hang around girl were standing on the corner of the gym trying to sell drugs, and he came up to the girl. We brought him him, housed him, and raised him in our company, in the gang. Hustling drugs, robbing people and the like. The good thing about him was he integrated his time with us in his character and that was it. He knew IC what he knew. He spent his entire time on the server in the gang, getting initiated as a member, and surviving my death. He lead an offshoot of the gang once it dissolved. Cool kid, too. Used to do IC raps and then make the track, rapping himself, and release it on the forum. South east londoner.

The forum site for LS-RP if interested (I would not suggest it, as cool as I might have made it sound): http://forum.ls-rp.com/

Edit-----

The real downsides: There was a core group of english speakers and pretty much fluent speakers. The server was up all the time obviously so you kind of kept to your timezone at night, but in the day, there was a lot of sub-par grammar. It got better by the time I left because they radically changed the application system to get on the server and added to an already lengthy application. I have no idea of the state of it now but it is bigger and there will always be non-native speakers in the daytime (here in the US) but I imagine their US players base and western european base has increased. Last time I checked the player slots were 500 and it was often full at peak times.
