What are WB CCUs?
They're how CIG does discounts. They require new money (so no store credit) but you can get $5, $10, $15, $20 or more knocked off the price of a regular CCU.

"$5 dollars? Why bother" I hear you ask.
Well the cool thing about these is that you can combine the discounts if you can fit multiple WB CCUs in the same CCU chain. It's basically make your own discount. Now, you have to pay at least $5 for a CCU, so the smallest WB CCU you can buy is a $10 CCU discounted to $5, or a 50% discount. Not too shabby.

The thing to keep in mind here, is to always select the ship closest in value to the WB CCU discount point. So for example, let's say Arrow ($75 melt value normally) has a $5 discount WB CCU on it. You can't pick 325A to Arrow CCU, as that'd be $0 CCU and CIG doesn't do those. For obvious reasons. Instead, you could, and probably should, pick 315p ($65 melt value) for a $5 off, and pay $5 at 50% discount. Of course you could pick 300i ($60 melt), possibly because you own a 300i, and pay $10 at 33% discount. But you really shouldn't. This is for two reasons. Firstly, because WB CCUs are new money, so you'd have to put in $10 new money, when you could've just used $5 store credit for 300i to 315p and then used $5 fresh money for 315p to Arrow. Secondly, and more importantly, the smaller CCUs you use the better chances you have to fit some new future CCUs into the chain. Thirdly, specific to this and some other cases, 315p is permanently available. So even if you don't have store credits right now, you can get that normal 300i to 315p CCU whenever.

"Okey, but it's still just $5 dollars, like what are you going to do, keep doing this for years and, then what, get ships for next to nothing?"
Yes. Absolutely yes. This really is "build your own discount." If you have the patience to do this over several sale events, you can get something like my $155 Banu Merchantman CCU chain. That's quite a steal. Or if you got more money than patience, you can do this over like one event and walk away with perhaps a 30% total discount depending on the target ship and your luck. That's not bad either.

"But isn't the goal to support the development! Why not just pay the full price of ships?"
Well, if you get a ship for 50% off, you still got the option to buy a second ship also for 50% off. You'll still fund with the same amount, only you got twice the amount of ships now. Cool, right?

Today we have Eclipse, with $25 discount at this price range, it's a decent offer, though unfortunately you need to put at least $15 of new money in as the next cheapest ship is Mercury Star runner at $260. Still, you're getting a $40 CCU for $15. Pretty decent deal if you're interested in Eclipse or something more expensive than it, like trying your luck with the $350 old concepts Endeavor or Crucible.

Hooray! Collaboration ftw!

I grabbed the Eclipse CCU and turned my Scoundrel Pack MSR into a Redeemer.
(I really hate the cargo loading mechanic, especially with the MSR.) I guess I'll pickup the cargo modules for the Tali at ILW to handle the mid range moving of things.

Sadly, Tali is not great at cargo only small boxes fit in those 2 small cargo bays

If I really need to carry cargo, I have a Liberator (with an M2 loaner), but I don't see cargo as a focus. The reason, for me, for Tali Cargo Modules would be to fill the gap between the Cutlass Blue/Zeus Mk II MR and the Liberator. Mostly involving moving my crap from one location to another. With the new Cargo direction I don't see my self running much cargo. If I wanted to play Tetris, I would play Tetris.

This change also gives me a crew step between the Zeus MkII and the Tali and the Redeemer is also supposed to have a Bounty Hunter function, potentially a module.

Instead of the cargo modules I may decide to add a Connie, because I can't get the cargo modules with LTI and "When you think handsome bounty hunter making his own way in a galaxy of enemies, you think the Constellation."

Predictably, we're getting the Polaris WB CCU with the ship becoming flight ready. I think that offer will stay for a week or so, but nothing is ever certain with CIG. Quite a big flight ready price bump as well, the ship used to be $750. Usually the WB CCU offer roughly negates the flight ready bump, but this one falls short by a whole $100. This does, however, suggest that the older concepts are getting wilder and wilder flight ready bumps. So pay particular attention to Crucible, Endeavor, idk, Perseus? Perseus is actually an RSI ship so if you're in a (very gradual) hurry, that'll be one where the flight ready bump materializes sooner rather than later. Endeavor you'll probably have to wait until well after 1.0 patch.

As for Aquila, it's decent, though it's unfortunate you need to fork $15 new money to get it. This is very similar to the Eclipse WB CCU earlier, and in fact overlaps with it.

I'm guessing that the Polaris CCU will be in the store, along with the ship itself, for the standard 4-ish weeks that CIG allow for any newly released ship/concept.

I also believe that the Perseus (Along with the Drake Ironclad(s?) and RSI Apollo) were shown in the Citizencon presentation as being intended to be released in the next 12 months, so it's likely worth grabbing any CCU's to them that you think you may need, using credit, to ensure you have them before their release price jump.

Oh, this is nice. RAFT has a WB CCU. At first you might think that a mere $10 discount isn't anything to write home about, but this is a $125 ship. You can fit this WB CCU into almost every chain imaginable, well, unless you're building like a starter ship. And $10 is a pretty solid discount at this price point.

standard 4-ish weeks
Is it 4 weeks for all backers, or just the fellowship of the monocle? Before I got my monocle I vaguely remember that the flight ready discounts didn't stick around for all that long, though that was ages ago so it's entirely possible they've made the flight ready offers longer for all backers. Or I could just plain remember wrong.

Most new ship releases and concepts get 4 weeks (or more) on sale (as do the packs and Warbond CCU's that are part of the "launch" sale, if any) before being removed from the store. The fellowship of the monocle gives an extra 1 week on top of that. The SRV, which was released to Flyable at last year's IAE (from memory), was on sale from November 23 last year until Jan 9 this year, for example (With an extra ICYMI from Jan 19-30 for the ship and Warbond CCU).

Uhm. Someone at CIG's marketing team must be married to the $175 price point, as this is the fourth WB CCU this IAE we're getting for ships this price. It's great if you want a Vulture, but for everyone else this is getting frustratingly redundant.

That's... a lot of new WB CCUs all of a sudden, and it's not even BIS or Finale portion of the event yet. Terrapin Medic also combines pretty well with the Hornets, so that's great. And the Valkyrie isn't bad either.

Hmm, right now you could just straight up get F7C-R Hornet Tracker MK II ($155 as you'd need to start from Prospector or Razor) $165->$185
Terrapin Medic $200->$220
Starlancer MAX $225->$250
for a pretty clean $155->$250 leg of a CCU chain for just $10+$15+$5 = $30.
I mean, that's a quite good discount for the $155-$250 portion, though yes, there have been better ones in the past. If these are flight ready sales as I think they are, it's definitely worth it to see if the event finale brings in something even better, but it's looking quite nice right now.

Here's a public service announcement:
If you happen to have one of the BIS ships as part of your CCU chain without a discount, you should look into melting that and replacing it with the store credit BIS offer that gives you a paint and a poster.

For example, I just noticed I had a Hurricane to Terrapin ($10) as part of one of my CCU chains, as a filler between the discounted warbond CCUs.
Just plain old Hurricane to Terrapin with nothing fancy.
I melted that and got Hurricane to Terrapin ($10) with BIS paint for the Terrapin and a poster.
I see this as an absolute win. 🍻

During this IAE, I decided to see what I could do about upgrading my old Freelancer MAX & Freelancer MIS into their big brother versions, the Starlancer MAX & Starlancer TAC. Here's the path I took at the end of the IAE. Yes, I know, I should've pounced on that Eclipse WB, but at the time I was massively bummed from having missed out on the Idris yet again & didn't think about the Eclipse WB at that time. What wasn't spent in WB, was covered with Store Cred. So I ended up with both upgrades (which would total for $250) for only $40 of new money. I believe that I did alright, though I wish we knew how much that Starlancer BLD was going to cost to start saving for that to be prepared to complete that set.
