Because they had to come up with a reason for its existence when the unrestricted original concept put it there because they like the aesthetics.
Seeing the video cover image made me wonder if CIG positioning the BMM as larger now creates room for a smaller Banu hauler.

I'm really looking forward to when SQ42 is released so that the upgraded looks of the Vanduul ships also go live in the Verse as they look vicious. I've been a huge fan of the BMM since its concept & I'm eagerly paying attention to how CIG is working on its development. I hope that there will be many more ships from the various Alien civilizations that we'll get the opportunity to own & use.
