I'm torn between a Redeemer and a Vanguard =/

Well, they both carry about the same missile load. IIRC, the Redeemer carries 20 S2 and the Vanguard 16S2. Not sure how many launchers the Redeemer has. Could be it can only launch 2 at a time. Could be at times the Vanguard has the missile advantage and it can carry S3 missiles. I don't think the Redeemer can do that, and they haven't updated the ships page so it would take ages to find what they plan.

The Vanguard is a multi-role platform, modeled after the P-61 Black Widow radar equipped Night Fighter, and F-111 Aardvark fighter-bomber. To get the most out of it you'll need 2-3 players, but it can be handled with just 1. The Redeemer really needs three players to take advantage of the guns. It is more akin to the AC-130 gunships. Expect it to need more power, glow brighter on sensors, but have perhaps a third shield. I think it doubtful it will be stealth capable. Many ships are not. I would not be surprised if it is faster in space than the Vanguard but handles poorly in air. Same manufacturer, so we're expecting different trade-offs. The Redeemer does not have a good airframe. I'm guessing they are building them to be primarily Intended for the Interceptor and patrol roles, like the Skipray Blastboat--more than a match for most fighters. Hope for a third medium shield if they go that route.

The Redeemer was my favorite ship for a long time until I realized that we really want to optimize firepower, maneuverability, defense, etc. all over crew. Think about three guys in a Redeemer against three guys each in their own Vanguard. . .and well, the Redeemer looses. Badly.

Think about a small team doing a terrestrial incursion, and the stealth in the Sentinel frame with the bang of the Hoppy mod wins easily over any other ship yet proposed.

Maybe, if you don't care about stealth, and you know you have three guys, and you want to take just one ship for some reason, maybe the Redeemer is a better option. Only Maybe.

Plus if you want group play, there will be many Sentinels with Harby mods teaming for long range stealth strikes. You'll always be able to find solo or group gameplay killing Vanduul. It's hard to see it now, but long range is going to be a huge advantage. For solo bounty work, probably nothing beats the Sentinel with the EMP if you want them alive, and with the 3XS5 when it doesn't matter.
And I don't know that I have the guys. I've got some buddies that joined up but they're flaky as all be. TESTies are always down I'm sure, and that's an option, but for someone without a dedicated fighter (again I don't think the Corsair counts) I want something I can solo when I get on. I grabbed the CCU and I'm just not going to apply it. I get a Valk as a loaner which is good enough. If it goes up significantly, I'll just melt the ccu and grab the Sentinel during the Invictus or Nov sale (I only say Invictus because they've shown it twice in a row and last year said it was close. Could get some news on it).

I wanted to like the Vanguards. I played with them for months, tried all the different weapons and ship components. Tried it stealth, tried it as a tank, tried to dogfight with it, nothing worked. In every scenario there was some other ship that could do it better. I was really disappointed with all the Vanguards. I keep making excuses to keep them, so I still have them. But if I could only have 1 ship, I'd take the redeemer without hesitation (even with it in concept because it can't be worse).

The one thing that they were useful for is to travel longer distances without refueling using a fast engine. Most small ships, once you put a fast engine on their distances get cut ridiculously short. Larger ships can do the same, but it takes so much time to get into a large ship, an inconvenience if you are in a hurry to another planet.

All i want to do is park my javelin on top of my kraken and park my carrack in my javelin with my redeemer stuffed in the carrack lol

I lean towards the Vanguard.

The Redeemer looks too much like my Norelco electric razer, with the shaving heads just relocated to the sides.
The redeemer is actually getting a full rework so what you see now is not what we are getting it's best to wait until later. Do you have the original concept?

I've had it for a while. The biggest reason I was looking to get out of it was just the talk about needing so many people to run it. I grabbed the ccu and am sitting on it for the harb. I'll likely melt the ccu as the redeemer will prolly get a price bump.

i guarantee there is going to be a price jump on that ship in the near future so id hold onto it dont rush into the vanguards just rent them for now until closer to release let the redeemer come out then see if you like it then make your decision. You could end up missing out on a big ship(Also you dont HAVE to have 3 people to run it most ships you can run yourself its just a bit harder)

Here is my two cent.... Get a Sentinel.

I have had all of the Vanguards and tried them out above and beyond and the one that never failed me is the Sentinel.

That ship is the best of the Vanguard and I challenge anyone to prove me different.

So I stuck with the Sentinel as it also easy can be turned in to a any of the other version with a module, which is three in one ship. ( as far as I know the dropship version is not modular )

The Redeemer is totally reworked we know nothing about it or how it will be, but one thing it is not is modular so what you get is what it is..

And I am fairly sure the Redeemer wont be a good heavy dogfighter like any of the Vanguard is and then some,

The Vanguard can also easy be flown solo and be as deadly as with or without a turret gunner.

Your choice in the end it is you that will fly it.

CHEERS! 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻

I ccu'd a sent too xD it's sitting in the hangar ready to be applied depending on the future of the Redeemer! Such a nice looking ship.

Regardless of my electric razer comment, I still do keep a Redeemer in the fleet. I like the 'small gunship' niche that it fills and think it will prove to be a blast in game play. I think I just like the overall feel of the Vanguard (and its cool variants) a little better. Maybe a Redeemer model update could change my mind?!

The Hooplite wasn't a modular variant in the initial concept since CIG claim it was based an heavily moidified hull, but since the Vangiard rewaork and the total re-concept of the modular/variant the Hoplite is now a standard Vanguard variant at least for what concern the central room.
I think the different chassies still have different caratteristic, like a better EM protection for the Sentinel and an heavier armor for the Hoplite, but fot any other thing they should be the same and, most important, moodule-compatible.
Dont' know what the other two variant will/should have as chassies "perk"...

Yeah I know but it change a bit after rework but all the vangurad are same except hoplite, but said it will be modual based to..
That would be great but I wait until I see that, before that I take it with a grain of salt..
Warden, Harbinger and Sentinel we know they are 100% identical different paint, different moduls and equpment is what set them apart.
But sure hope the remake really is modul interchangable to, then a Vanguard is 4 in one ship awesome.

Well all this talk about vanguards has made me itch so I bought back my harbinger. Slap size 4 missiles on so S4 and S4 missiles and a ballistic loadout = goodbye everyone!

Fired torps on yourself ? 🙃
Two sessions of Stayed out for a long joyride, completely ran out of ammo and missiles so tried to take the last 6 prospectors out via ramming :D

(ended up ramming every part off my ship to bits, and then was just left to drift aimlessly through space until my air run out!)

RAMMING SPEED!!!!

I put something up in the discord but I know we've got names active on here that I don't see there so I'mma ask here too. Question TESTies! I have the redeemer in my hangar and I know it’s slotted for a Q3 release. Im looking for a beefy combat ship I can roll around solo-ish with. I know the redeemer needs at least 3. My original goal was to wait till q3 and ccu to the sentinel or harbringer. I’m afraid the price of the redeemer is going to shoot past those ships though. Should I sit on the redeemer or just go ahead and grab the vanguard? What would you do?!

Thanks for your time folks,

Tac
They are two different ships with different missions.

The Redeemer is more multicrew and designed to fly along a path while the turrets engage targets along the path. This makes it ideal as an escort or a gunship engaging ground targets.
The Vanguard is a fighter which maneuvers to put its nose on target and engage.

While the Vanguard is designed for a crew of 2, its primary firepower is in the hands of the pilot. The Redeemer, on the other hand, is designed so its primary firepower in the hands of its gunners.

So the question becomes which play style do you prefer?

At the end of the day it's going to be my primary combat ship for whenever I dive into that gameplay loop. I don't need the meta/best ship around and what pulled me to the Vanguards in the first place was their range. Range is something that I don't want to be a limiting factor for me in the future, and the Vanguard's are sold as long range fighters. The sent is particularly sexy thanks to the mysterious e-war stuff. I have a feeling I'll just be applying the ccu for the sent in a few months but I wanna hold out so I don't regret upgrading it. Even if I didn't hold it after it released, could up into another boat for less.
