In Atmosphere Quantum

Ummm...I really haven't been playing Star Citizen for a bit, but I came across this yesterday which pleasantly surprised me. I captured a couple videos for your enjoyment. I know this was demoed a year or so ago, but this is t he first time that I've encountered in game. Is this old news or a part of the 4.9 release? If not, is anybody else talking about this? Might be a good topic for Montoya's Daily Video until SQ42 release.

There is an entire science surrounding the choices we have with various Q drives, with their various spool times, stages, reset, etc. I have always felt second seat navigators have space to really develop themselves as master navigators by exploring all the very specific benefits of one drive over another past the common speed vs range issue. No ship has a second drive, so if you want to quantum back and forth locally, say across the battlefield; you really need to do a deep dive into drive choice. I haven’t done it but I’m guessing someone has.

There's no planets in Nyx so many people won't notice the difference right now and in this particular patch.
But I spent some time on Microtech yesterday as my Conny Phoenix needed a new radar. And so I can say with authority that starting up Quantum in vicinity of the treeline still yields "Disabled in atmosphere" on the ancient planets.
Maybe those new places in Pyro are different?
Then again, that first video actually does look a lot like that frozen Hightech Resort.
Oh well.
Gotta TEST it out, because that's what we do... :-)

Hm that certainly does look like MicroTech. I'm currently at MIC-L2 so I'll give it a try tonight or tomorrow or perhaps whenever I get a chance if I don't need to shoot anyone working in IT. No offence @Mudhawk ... it's just this team I have to work with (or through or around take your pick).

btw, he's on Bloom in Pyro, first stop was Carver's Ridge. Not going to do that trip today maybe by the weekend.

Yeah, it doesn’t seem that you can engage quantum in atmosphere on every planet/moon. I only tested this successively on Bloom and Monox in the Pyro system. I haven’t been testing at multiple locations but it definitely doesn’t work on Hurston either.
