Is the Warden worth getting?

So lads and lasses, I find myself looking at the Warden and wondering to myself; "Do I need one of these?" My shed is currently somewhat lacking in the combat department with regards to heavy fighters. The heaviest ship I have is my Super Hornet followed by a Wildfire and a Gladius Valiant, with an Aurora LN bringing up the rear. I'm looking to add something larger to the mix, and with 3.0 over the horizon, the Warden looks like the best (if not only) option. I've RECed a Warden before and found it enjoyable, but I didn't experiment too much with alternative loadouts. So... any advice from current, or former, Warden owners? Is the Warden viable for a single person to operate? Thanks in advance folks!

Yes, absolutely!

I own two of them, sentinel (warden loander) and a hoplite. When using an m7a and x2 S4 missiles, they get the job done pretty quickly when solo. It's, besides the SH, the only ship I use for PVP solo since 2.6.

I had one for a hot second, but it was just too slow for me. So I stick with my SH. Now when I say too slow, I mean by just a little. It felt about a half second behind what I needed to acquire my target. It didn't happen all the time, but it happened often enough for me to walk away from it. It's worth noting that the SH does the same thing to me as well. It just doesn't happen very often.

It can be mitigated, but it is at the risk of opening yourself up to take more hits. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the damn thing didn't fall apart so easily. They may have fixed it, but when I tried it the engines were like Mr. Potato Head parts. They would take a few hits and just fall off. So I decided to give it a little more time to get developed before jumping into it again.

Keep in mind, the Hurricane is slated to be released soon as a concept. It is rumored to be a heavy. They also seem to be pushing the small ship pipeline pretty quick. The buccaneer is getting close to flyable (or is, not sure). So these smaller concept ships are moving quickly from concept to flight ready. That may be an option to consider instead of a Vanguard.

Then again, running around with a M7A poking out of your pants like that is positively pornographic...

Firstly you have some duplication with the wildfire and super hornet I know they are slightly different but probably not enough to warrant both. The warden is more interesting for long range and because of the potential sentinel option those are its advantages. At this stage of the alpha the warden has no benefit over the hornet variants and whether the advantages are worthwhile only time will tell.

I had a warden for a while, and the redundancy in the engines is very useful, so long as you can get your shields back up before the other one goes missing. The ship also has very respectable fuel tanks - never found myself thinking 'ooh shit, thats dangerously low' when bouncing about in the PU, so I'd imagine if you're hoping to be doing a lot of combat as a solo player, having a warden would massively expand the range in which you could comfortably hunt down some pew.

And the M7A is just excellent fun to use. Alpha Striking people with minimal dispersion ftw.

Anybody has to decide this for him/herself, finally. I tried the Warden several times because I *wanted* to like her. But alas, every fucking time there was some hotshot pilot in his Delta or Gladius and busted my ass into space in no time. The steering behaviour of the Warden just won't fit to my dogfighting skills. Thus I stayed with the SuperHornet which for me is a suitable compromise between a heavy, but still manouverable fighter.

Simple answer is - do you look at it and think "I must have this" if so, buy it, if not don't buy it.

No point in just buying ships for the sake of it!

On the issue of long range, one thing to keep in mind is that without a bed in your bird, when you log you will get bumped back to a dock somewhere, probably back where you started. With the bed you can log, sleep, work, go eat dinner, etc.; and the Warden will be right where you left it when you log back in. While that does not matter much now, it will in 3.0. Also, it appears players will be able to link to a bed if they have permission, even if it is not their ship; so if you are killed half way across the galaxy from home, you will spawn in that bed. If gameplay goes as expected, every fleet of Vanguard will include at least one Warden for this purpose alone.

I like the idea of having a long range fighter, that's not necessarily reliant on a carrier. I ccu'd my gladiator to a harbinger for this reason. I was able to purchase the BUK's for the other flavors during the V-day sale.

Personally, I prefer my Sabre to my Vanguard as a Fighter. The Vanguard can take a lot of hits and capable of brushing off occasional missiles, as the shields are capable of regenerating from the impact (provided your not under constant fire), but the limited pilot controlled weapons (4x fixed S1 guns + S5 hardpoint) don't give me enough "bang" for the size and speed of the ship. If you fly with a friend this deficiency can be made up for with the turret, but if your just after a heavy fighter I would recommend the Sabre or wait and see what the Hurricane has to offer.

If they fix the dang nose canons, the thing is a supermodel but if you run out of missiles, you're gonna be fighting that Nine Tails Aurora for 20 minutes, and just forget about that Cutlass! The good news is the missiles rock now(I've got 5 missile kills since 2.6.1 PTU dropped), and the problem of the premature death of the M7A seems fixed. All in all, she's sleek and deadly

my opinion, definitely cappable of destroying vanduuls, if you replace the s4 weapon at the tip you have much firepower.
best, if you have a shield engineer, turret is unusuable atm, maybe a Missile turret is more usuable.

but they promised already to implement different aiming Systems for turrets. best Thing you can do is install Long range cannons in turrets to penetrate them like a repeater.

when the final Version is live, there will be enough guys without Money/ships, which will take place the 2 stations.

also, Arena commander is not comparable with the final game. you will have more 1vs1 or battles alike with no replacement.

so straight forward brute force firepower wont be the most vital or "best" Thing you can do.

One thing to bear in mind is in the future when we have a full array of interesting S5 ballistic weapons, and hopefully too some special ballistics to fit the 4 x S2 points, it may be a different story regarding vanguard firepower!!

Somewhat lacking? You have 4 combat ships.
Well, I guess it depends on how much combat you're planning on doing, but I, for one, try not to buy ships that overlap in purpose.
With that out of the way, I'll say the Vanguard is a beautiful beast.

When I say "lacking" I mean that it's not overly diversified. All my combat ships are covering the mid to small size bracket. The Warden is one of the only heavy patrol fighters in the game currently.

The Vanguard are the only long range fighters in game currently. Since Squad 42 is based on them it would be wise to consider the need for long range.

I am annoyed CIG cannot publish stats on range and make them useful, yet wants us to buy the ships anyway. $400 for a Prowler I ain't payin' until I know if it has decent range and can fit an S2 scan suite. If it functions like a Sentinel and Hoplite combined, it is a great deal.

From my point of view the Warden is great if you make the time learn how to fly it effective, if you are use to fly hornets and sabre it will take some time getting use to fly the vanguards... if you ain't got that time them skip it but if you do I can only say what I feel about the vanguard..

I love that ship it is awesome once you get the hang of how it handle then you dogfight easy in it and it got some nice advantages to a light fighter and if used right put you on the wining side and make the light fighter run instead of stay and fight you..
( Now some one say but it is not good against a group of sabre or hornet well which ship is that, stay on the ground okay.. ;) )

I will not go in to the guns since a gun setup is all personnel what work for you and what you allow your self to learn using some like em some not I say you like em when you learn to use them. So from my point of view learn to use the vanguard and you will not want ot be without one in your hangar, you would regret every day not having it. ;) IMO

CHEERS! :beers::beers::beers:
