I definitely agree with the whole 'X for pew' approach, as it broadens accessibility and can help you find some really amazing moments in game, however I'd have to argue there is definitely a need for a job board type system.

It would provide a nice method for those planning longer term missions, or looking for more regular work - as an example, putting together a crew for a mining expedition the next weekend, or securing an escort for your Hull-D across five systems.

You'd have access to the wider numbers of people available without having to know each and every one personally.
I think it'd be a very good addition to things, especially for those who favour a more structured gameplay - can't wait to see how CIG implement it, assuming they do :)

Yes, definitely. I also like the idea of having a designated meeting point to start the mission to keep secrets, well, secret. It might be nice though to have some functionality built in. For instance, having mission parameters available for viewing only after the event poster accepts a crew member. All you would see is "mission" or something like that. Once you are selected as a crew member, it would then allow you to see what exactly the mission is. This would allow you to bow out of the mission if it isn't something you want to do. Particularly if it messes with your standing or reputation with another org or in game faction. This would also allow the event manager to find a replacement prior to the mission start.

I think that secrecy is going to be essential to much of the gameplay in SC. If people know you are loading up a large cargo ship, they will be lining up to take a crack at you. This is even worse if they know in advance and are allowed to plan ahead by organizing security shutdowns and such.

I think that secrecy is going to be essential to much of the gameplay in SC.
This is why ultimately I think the best privateering experience is going to be amongst a group of players who are committed to the group. It is hard enough for players to set schedules and keep them. That can be worse if you have many overlapping and competing loyalties.

I think gaming should be both easy and challenging. I want to be able to log on for 20 minutes, run a mission, learn something new, have a great experience and log off for the night. I also want to be able to plot with team members and play 5 hour outrageous and truly epic ops where we do the stuff of legend. You don't do that with people you don't know and trust. So I intend to be happy in a smallish group and absolutely, no one outside the group needs to know where our secret base is.

Problem: You're putting together a crew for a job, but you're not sure who would be interested, who has experience, and whether you'd be better off just joining up with a pre-existing crew, already doing the same thing.

Solution: Some kind of TEST Job & Crew recruitment board? In theory, this would be a new forum board, with a post per member, listing your interests, ships, availability times and what kind of experience you're looking for out of your play sessions, such as role play, DrunkSquad etc. Tagging within the original post would also be pretty handy.

This could also work the other way around, with a post being put up for a specific job, listing the objectives, type of experience, and how many people you're looking for.

Obviously expecting spectrum, or even mobiglass in game to provide something similar by the time 3.0 is released, but it could be worth putting something together now/soon so we've got a rudimentary idea of who we're likely to end up flying with, and as such getting to know them :slight_smile:

It is a good concept. Discord provides a means for both finding guildies to crew and gives live comms. The plan my dudes and I have is similar to playing other MMORGP's, that being "Raid Nights". Play however you wish during off times but we all crew one of the multicrew ships on the designated day. Examples being Friday night we sail off into the black in my Carrack and Wednesday evening we man an Endeavor. This is about the easiest way for us to get to use the expensive ships we bought and get to maintain the fun of social gaming.

Pretty much my idea for most official ops as well. No need to be complicated. With internal tracking then you can pull people together that have specific skills and experience for less public operations.
