The more I see of the Idris the more it reinforces my decision to melt it and never look back was the correct one.

Its such a poorly laid out ship, its going to be an absolute ball ache to use as on top of being a badly designed ship in the first place, its interior is a complete dogs dinner to boot.

CIG have really tied themselves in knots with the Idris, its a mess.

It's looking kinda neat, though I'm not sure if the bathroom needs to be the size of the sleeping quarters... which then has 2 additional bathrooms.
And instead of evenly distributing these high-toilet capabilities around the ship, they're all in that same area.
So many toilets, but if you're working in the gravity room, you'll piss your pants on the journey up to the bathroom.

Well I don't feel it's badly desing but the interior feel kinda confused and not really well planned, some room fell like they are just put "someware as long as there is space for them....

I can see the Idris being a great place for SQ42 to take place from, but I have the feeling that in PVP we might be using Javelins and Perseus a lot more than Idris.

This, its a single player game asset that just makes no sense for the PU.

Its crew requirements are not that much less than are required to make a Javelin combat effective, and a Javelin has enough firepower to crush an Idris without even having to resort to using its main weapons, so if you have the choice between the two, you would * never* use the Idris for anything, as outside of the big gun it doesnt really have any thing going for it.

B-b-but it can carry three fighters! I mean great I suppose, your fighters cant carry anything that will threaten anything that is a danger to you, and your turrets and point defences will be more effective against bombers so....... what ever.

Carrying the fighters, and even a couple of light bombers would be interesting if the larger ships had same weaknesses as the WW2 ships the concepts and philosophy of the game is aiming for.

However last time I looked none of the ships in SC have large wooden decks to drop bombs through, and the ships in WW2 didnt have 360 energy shields, huge long distance Ai controlled laser weapons, missile pods and all encompassing armour plating.

Hmm not so sure about that....
Sure for ship-to-shi combat those are better choices, but there are other scenarios involved.
Bomber are still a thing and both Eclipse and Ares could be a treat to those large ship if deployed in squadron.
Also, for fleet base operation, do not forget that, since the Bengal is not a permanent and granted option to players, the Idris is actually the only capital ship able to carry fighter, so during fleet operation you eiter go with an Idris or without figher escort.

Also there are other scenario where the Idris could came into play for example as a mobile base for ground operation: having a mobile orbital base that could carry both the groudn troops AND the ari support is a good asset for several operation.

Oh, and last thing: unlike the Javelin, the idris CAN land on planet... I mean tecnically the Javellin can land too, just in a non conventional way, and taking off again won't be an option...

Those are strategically placed toilets, mind you. Just fly over top your opponent's ship and flush them all at the same time.
silly goose, there is no gravity In Space

The Javelin has a medium sized hangar, and you also seem to have forgotten about the Kraken, you know, the one that can carry 8 fighters not 3, the one with the tiny crew compliment compared to running an Idris?
The one with the S8 STS turret on the nose that doest require you to line up your entire ship to get a shot off.

That Kraken,

But as I said, fighters in capital ship battles will be next to worthless.

No I didn't forget about the Kraken that is a really good fleet carrier... but all the ship will be sitting into an open pad, not enclosed within the ship, and that in a combat scenario means open to enemy fire in addition to have to carry out R&R operation while in EVA sistuation. Will the kraken shileds protect them? at to what extent (balistics weapons still bypass a good amount of shields)?
About the Javelin yes, it does have a medium size hangar but it's suitable for only one ship and, as I state before, can't land on planet, so it fill a different slot in several situation.

I'm not saying that the Idris is superior to other ships, but it has his own place and there are situation where the idris will be a better choice compared to other similar or more capable ship.
Will it be the go-to choice? No, but as long as we have the ship into gamers hands and a game's state that allow different enviroments' situations I'm not going to consider the Idris a pile of junk.

Another aspect that neet to be taken into account, other then rough specifics, is ship survaivability: how armor is gonna work? How renduntant will the system be? On pure speculation I don't see a ship like the Kraken have a better survivability the the Idris in higth combat enviroment for example and that could lead to have the whole ship and his cargo holded away for repair not to consider the costs...
As I sayed too many factor to be considered, most of them are related to game's content that are not out yet.

My friend, I think you miss the point. See for starters it's space, I can discriminate when I hire my crew, and they're all going to be female, 22-25 years old. All will be required to have a high-school and college history of being on the swim team... In addition, ships uniforms will be reminiscent of 21st century Spring Break beach attire. The ship's temperature will be kept at a balmy 85 degrees to discourage additional attire. Ship's captain will be spotted frolicking about, with a bottle of something alcoholic, all visitors should be warned that the Captain's uniform is a G-String which is worn approximately 10% of the time.

PS. Ship's hanger will be out of commission due to it's repurposing as an indoor beach.
