Do not forget the 350 will get an update. Even so the M50 is considerably cheaper and currently handles better, the 350 was straight line faster and more drifty.

350 is an already modded racer that supposedly the fastest it will ever be.

The m50 has yet to have its hood lifted and modded. I'm getting neon lights and "NOS" for mine...

Like @DarthMunkee said, the M50 has a smaller profile/signature so if you're racing with hot weapons it's a solid choice. It *is* quantum/jump capable so it makes a good option for interplanetary and planetside info running. If you know you'll be under fire getting to your destination you'll need a damn good reason to take anything else. I see its biggest use outside of racing being blockade running and visual scouting.

The 350r is the fastest straight line ship in the game and it will likely hold that title especially once we can mod ship components. Apparently this is no longer the case. I'm glad I bought a Herald!

For serious racing, most people will go with the 350, but I'm sure there will be locations that suit the M50 better (and of course the ship specific circuits).

Actually, I think the Herald is now the fastest in straight line @B3aT made pretty handy spreadsheet with all the speeds for 2.6

With the ship speed changes that are being implemented with 2.6 you should probably ignore anything that has been said before.

I have a 350R and love it, but when it comes to racing I rely upon 'The Word of Shive', and according to that gospel it is the m50 that comes out ahead.

...see his brief comment below the video.

Sheauthyme made a response to my 33.53s 350R time where he beat my time by almost a second...well now I beat that.
My time was made in a 350R though, and his in a m50.
It's not really a fair comparison, I think the m50 has way more power at the moment.

Times with ships so far:
m50: 27,33s <- OP acceleration, pitch/yaw turn rate, OP brakes, the faint/roll-system is the ONLY limiting factor atm.
350R: 32,35s <- A little too weak on the pitch and roll turn rate. Brakes are dodgy as they only work well when boosting + yaw'ing.
Sabre 38,35s <- A little op on the forward acceleration?
Omega/Gamma 42,79s <- THIS SHIP CAN'T TURN, does boost even work?
Hornet 48,14s <-- Accelerates super fast, can't brake for shieet.
300i 55,51s <-- THIS SHIP CAN'T TURN OR ACCELERATE, and why does a hornet smoke it?
85x 58,86s <-- This ship can't turn or accelerate and has no fuel regen and very small boost tank.

Everyone's talking about racing and I use my 350R with two repeaters and a pyroburst in AC. So much Maneuverability and acceleration. It takes longer to kill anything but once you know how to use it, it's some fun gameplay.

I think I would like either one...

For general purpose stuff, the stock 350 sucks a little because it only has front and rear shields. In general, the 300 series are not great in dogfights and this is one of the reasons, *but* maybe they will get the promised update soon.

Other than that, if all you want is a good general ship that is absolutely faster than (almost) everything out there, and carry a little cargo, then the 350 is perfect.

The M50 is a bit more maneuverable, and while slower, is really hard to hit in a dogfight. There is absolutely zero space for cargo, however, and both the 350 and Herald now are faster on a straight line course.
