Melting your ship - What should you know/expect? You wont get what its worth as sold by CIG.

Am I wrong for being pissed that I bought my hammerhead for $550.00 and I can't melt it for the selling value as of 2953 Expo? Almost 7 years later they say it's now sold for around $725 but they only want to give me $550. I do not think this is not a good relationship with CIG when they are treating its backers this way. I think they should honor the fact that some ships do not fit some people and if we want a different ship give us a melt for that damn ship's current value. They should be happy to have someone to melt their ship to get a different one that fits them better. instead, they scoff and say you bought it for x so we'll give you what you bought it for. This is NOT bad (more like a sketchy used car salesman approach)- it could be worse but it's crappy customer service and giving the middle finger to people who are not rich and have invested in this game over the years.

I understand your point my friend, but it could be a lot worse. When you melt your ship, you get back what you've put into it, not what they are selling them now, several years later. To borrow your used car dealer analogy, I point out that the moment you purchase a new vehicle & leave the parking lot, the resale value of most vehicles drops dramatically & continues to drop until some of the parts are more valuable than the vehicle as a whole. Some rare vehicles maintain their value better & those with the most demand after no longer being in production might even eventually be worth more, if you wait long enough, but with no guarantees of that. So while I admit that the situation could be more in our favor, I choose to be thankful that there's even a melt / buyback system at all.

Well CGI will always only give you back the amount of money that you put in.
And in casino currency no less.
I you want to increase your funds and you actually bought the ship in one go as warbond then you might be tempted to sell it to the grey market by "gifting" it.
Better chance to earn some of that increased money there.
At CGI though?
No way, Jose...

Good point. My understanding is we have two options. CCU and "Melting". CCU allows for a direct chassis upgrade but you can only exchange one ship during that process. Melting may allow you to combine multiple ships to make a larger purchase - the problem is, in the hammerhead example, there will be a $200 delta that you need to come up with. I am talking about purchases equal to or greater.

Example of a CCU - you can get the full value as valued by CIG

Ya was going to say. Melting gives you back the original invested amount. Ccu allows you to leverage the new ship price.

So in summary, on the baseline assumption that you do not want this HH anymore, here's your options:

1.) Since bought with real $ should be giftable. When it's NOT available in the store you can probably sell this on the grey market for close to its full value, and pocket the cash. For example:

2.) If you still want other CHEAPER ships, then you can melt it for the 550 in store credits, and get something else. Nothing really gained or lost.

3.) If you want another more EXPENSIVE ship, then grab the CCU(s) to get to it, and end up with the BMM/A2/Polaris/Etc. that you want for a $175 discount from it's 'retail' value, as the CCU will be based 'from' the current 725 value.
