This, on top of their hard-on for "spying"-esque mechanisms such as telemetry and data collection (even after you disable all of that, it still sends data to the servers), has convinced me that Microsoft is no longer serious about developing a proper OS.

A proper OS version-up has the following features:

1. Improved optimization in performance, processing speed, and capabilities.
2. Ease-of-use/operation for the average user and power users.
3. No bloatware. - Aka, software that has no value to the operating system.
4. No features that are intrinsically worthless to the user, such as telemetry and data-logging that potentially can be misused or utilized as an attack vector by hackers/malware.

Seriously, how hard is it? Apparently, for the folks at Microsoft, it's incredibly difficult to build an OS that makes sense, and doesn't insult the intelligence of Windows users everywhere.

Honestly I think this is just beginning to open the market for other OS makers to grab a share of Microsoft's big pie. For years Microsoft has been on shakier and shakier ground in my opinion. The debacle of Windows Vista followed by Windows 8 where it has become a common joke the every other Microsoft OS is shit. The move towards a more again in my opinion phone/ tablet OS look and use overall. I mean hey from a "its looks cool" standpoint more power to them. To a functionality straight forward use especially in the business setting not so much. Add in the bloat ware with a good helping of straight up spy ware and it honestly leaves you scratching your head.

In this day in age where computers are part of everyday life and where you got all this hyped up spyware/ NSA bullshit going on you'd think they would know better. Now you can write that off as normal users but from my experience business users haven't upgraded to Windows 8 much less ten. I work at a hospital and they went from XP directly to 7 skipping the hassle of Vista and no way they are going to 8. I would like to see the numbers business wise to see where 10 goes but as I said Microsoft seems to be shooting themselves in the foot. Looking forward to some other OS starting to come up perhaps Linux will see some more wide spread use into the main market.

I love how people that have no idea, cry about Vista. Vista, the OS, wasnt a bad OS. What Microsoft did to make it "seem" to be a shitty OS, was on them. It was released before hardware and software companies had a chance to optimize for it. About the worse thing that Vista did, was remove certain layers of interaction between the OS and the hardware. This is what caused alot of the initial debacle with the OS.

They jumped quickly to 7, to help remove the stigma of a Vista OS. The differences between Vista and 7 are minimal at best. So small, I could probably load both on a PC, give a blind "taste test" to the majority of users and they wouldnt know the difference.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Most computer users desire "spying" to help them with their daily lives. Now if we call it spying, of course, people get upset that their searches and computer usage is being sold to some undesirable who now knows they look up weird porn or have a secret collection of my little ponys.

But also what was mentioned above..now is the time for the development of new OS to compete with MS, Linux, and Pears..errr Apple. The problem of course is that the existing OS is so wrapped up in our business, education, and military (our.. being the world and not just the U.S.) that it will be extremely hard to be competitive.

Now if I could just figure out why when I goto XYZ search browser it always has ads for space games, firearms, or surfing equipment.... :)

No one it talking about tinfoil hats or specifically Microsoft OS being complete and utter shit. They work just like every other OS currently on the market they have their pros and cons. If you read my post as being a tinfoil hat conspiracy nut let me clarify it for you. Using Windows Vista as an example it was a failure. You are right Microsoft is in the business of making money their biggest cash flows being actual big business. Vista was received extremely poorly not by just every day average users but by big business where the real money is. Does that mean Vista was the worst OS ever? No. Did it succeed? No. It failed on multiple fronts and caused the rush to get out Windows 7. Simple fact of the matter is it wasn't making money.

Now to the point of them catering to some 10% I never said nor implied that. Rather I said people are becoming more educated and active in this age of computers. Yes I agree they do have a large share of the market and people have been consuming it without question for the majority. More and more people are becoming aware though in this digital age of what information they want shared or not. Not sure why they are being dismissed as tin foil hats as not only is it a growing number but its people actively taking part in the discussion of not only why but how to go about changing the trend. There are numerous examples of people tired of getting fucked over and making moves to change as the consumer becomes more aware of what is going on. Ex: Folks tired of Comcast screwing them over on prices, trying to combine with Time Warner to screw even more on prices. People stepped up and now we are starting to see competition. Hell even cities are actually building their own networks now where before it was damn near against the law for a city to build their own internet services.

The consumer opinion of 10 years ago is different from today and im sure 10 years from now it will be different from today. It is not tinfoil crazy to want competition, to want to see change. To hope that just maybe shit like this opens the door for innovation of a variety of different OS not to just cater to a minority but to offer something different to the people. So no I am not crazy and I am not asking for some specialized OS just for me I am simply a person who gives a shit as to what is going on with my computer just like everything else in my life. Variety is the spice of life and time doesn't stand still forever.

You may agree that all your government policies, rules and regulations are correct, not everyone does. A reasonable ability to stand against tyranny should always be maintained. Your government doesn't necessarily have your best interests at heart.
Data can be manipulated and presented in a number of ways. Not all will show you in a good light, no matter how much of a good citizen you are.

I honestly personally care that Microsoft is spying on us, but I am even more concerned about the UK becoming a militant and intolerant spying state. I am considering purchasing tunnel bear, yet like you said encryption will very soon become totally illegal (bank encryption included) and with the main Internet service providers happily providing third parties with targeted meta data I could easily find myself in court from attempting to protect my privacy.

300 British citizens found themselves arrested and detained indefinitely for questioning this year alone under the terror act. Our news is so censored things like this aren't even mentioned. Under the wording it could be made so any encryption could equal arrest and detention and no one would hear about it.

For any rational person who understands how this all works, the entire idea is idiotic. Yet these are the people we have in our government who truly believe in these ideals backed by millions of tax payers money.
Where it leads us is far past Microsoft and into a statewide requirement, this is only the start.

Kind of ironic seeing as the leaders for UK pedo rings seem to start with MP's, government officials, corporation heads (BBC), police (Scotland yard) and even the royal family (shocker right? No?!?)

UK is already a militant, intolerant, spy state. One of the most densly CCTV covered countries in the world. Protesting banned in parliament square, criminal justice act, SOCU, GCHQ, menwith hill. Cameron cannot ban encryption, London is a financial centre. He just means for average people, not corps or his lot. Just WhatsApp and FB messenger and any site / app that lets you host/access encrypted data. Basically he's a moron who would download the internet if he could.
Our weapons export industry is thriving and we're really good at allowing companies to sell technology that's assists with oppression to countries like Egypt and Turkey, who are right up there on Human rights violations.
