Wow, there are some sweet builds and rigs in here, but unfortunately my home is more of a mailing address than a residence. My kit has to be able to reliably travel, and preferably in my possession the entire time. This is the second iteration on this theme, with one upgrade not yet added. I'm switching the Quest 3 for a Pimax Dream Air whenever it arrives.

With the bases removed from the VKB Gunfighters, it all fits in the two cases along with a Starlink Mini that isn't pictured. Setup takes under five minutes for either Star Citizen or DCS. Teardown and packing is down to about five minutes.

So, it's either VR or GameGlass Tablet, right?
Or have you found a tool that lets you "see" that Tablet in VR?
That would be cool.
Apart from that, great setup!
PS: What kind of monstrous laptop makes you even consider VR?
Impressive, I'm sure.

For the tablet, GameGlass. My time in VR is probably like 10% of the time anyway. Trying to fly either spaceships or fighter jets in VR while at sea makes the inner ear go insane, and vertigo nearly immediate. I can use the glasses for a large non-VR flat screen without trouble and the Quest can have a pass through band down low to see keyboards and tablets. I'd imagine you could do pass through for everything but the projected screen, come to think of it, but I haven't tried.

For the laptop, I went with an MSI Raider 18 (RTX 5080) on top of a FlyDigi BS2 Pro cooler. It still gets hot, but tanks it like a pro at max graphics settings.

Everyone else has a ps5 in a bag and one of those handheld screen controllers while you’re like.. hauling a mobile flight simulator. Do they ever look at you with big eyes, “can I’ve a go?”

Very nice

Travels light with a nice thin laptop

Takes airbus cockpit in 9 hard cases

I like your style!
Well, kinda. Yes. My preferred aircraft for DCS is the F-16C, and there are working MFD rings and various panels made for VR simpits. The technology does exist. The thoughts have happened. The calculations are in progress as to how far I want to push this envelope. Side panels might be too much, but I could (will) fabricate some aluminum desk clamp brackets for the sticks to sit down low and have a quick breakdown/setup design. Some of the MFD rings would be pretty simple to click together and apart as needed. But not 9 cases. One more max, because I have to drag or carry everything through airports, down docks, and so on.

Yes. I usually oblige. The reactions are priceless. They almost always plow the F16 into the ground, but for a few minutes they giggle like children. Eyes bugging out of their heads when they take off the headset. Great fun in the airport bar while laying over.

Seems that rig was worth every cent by the sounds of it. 😅 👍
