Didn't you hear? GPU mining is no longer profitable (worth it) if you're paying for power.
I think when people find they can't actually sell their crypto for real world currency it will turn out it was NEVER profitable.
Any scheme that pretends to create value without providing either a products or a service, is just a scheme. If you can't cash out your crypto, you can't actually make money. Someone is going to be left holding the bag and those people are going to have the authorities all around the world hunting down sunlit beaches for ponzie bastards.
You can cancel your pre-order at anytime prior to release so if you know you want it, pre-order and then decide when the benchmarks come out.
So all the crypto currency thing might of been a conspiracy by Nvidia, to sell all the stock of old gen GPU's.
Anybody here looking to purchase some form of digital form of currency that will actually make a difference to us when the game fully launches initially should contact @DirectorGunner after CIG eventually authorizes the trading of UEC between players. I have a feeling that after he's multiplied his supplies in game a few times, that he might enter the currency retail industry. If I'm wrong, then I might eventually if I'm blessed enough to be profitable in game.

God I hope I have some cash in October. My fever dream to get hold of the 9900k, the 2080 ti and an Acer x27 could well end in despair.

I can almost imagine seeing @DirectorGunner in his character sitting in a space bar surrounded by bodyguard NPCs telling somebody in the tone & mannerism of Marlon Brando from The Godfather, "You come to me, looking for a few UEC ... In return, I give you a job that you can refuse ... Go fetch me a beer." It would also be helpful if that same type of thematic music was playing at the same time. LoL
