I would personally avoid the 9xxx chips, the 8xxx chips (same thing, lower clock) can be had for much less and with a simple change in BIOS, perform the exact same way.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MUTWEM6/?tag=extension-kb-20 Improved silicon version for $135. Can push well over 4.5ghz with ease and will not chew up 220W.

Unless you have crazy cooling, 220W is just insane. Note, it lacks a stock cooler? The stock AMD coolers just can not keep up with the heat output nor can most cheap coolers. For that, you would be spending north of $70 on the cooler alone. At that point, its cheaper to go Intel.

Now you tell me, I could have thrown in the HOTAS if I had gotten the cheaper chip.

Well hopefully with the SC HOTAS going to be released sooner than later (PLUS other manufactuers perhaps getting into making NEW HOTAS setups to be able to support all the new space sims that are out or will be out) that the current HOTAS setups will drop in price. I was able to pick up my HOTAS a few weeks ago pretty cheap on Newegg... just keep an eye out and make sure its a GREAT deal.

The better the deal the better you can explain to your wife why you had to buy it... its reverse logic!

If that doesn't work.. just deploy and order stuff online and send it home with the note to the shipper not to include receipts ;)

Get a good cooler for the FX9590 because its basically a new heater for your room :P It has a V-Core of 1.5 volts (compared to most Intel being overclocked to only about 1.3V) so its gonna run real hot and toasty! But dayum, turbo boost to 5.0 Ghz is freaking awesome.

The system I'm putting together is pretty similar. Just got in my ASUS R9 290X! Can't wait to get her running.

Its not too late to swap the chip. Decline the delivery when it gets to you, wait for it to return to newegg. Get refund, reorder. Save over $150 total there.

I almost went for that AMD cpu.... but god the power/heat and saw more than one horror story of it burning out motherboards
(maybe it was people using cheap, but supported motherboards, but still)

Yeah that sounds like a fish story to me. The power isn't actually that bad., either
