I’ve been tracking spacecraft development since 1977. Somehow, this plan NASA is working the last 3 years eluded me. I would much rather see large versions of this in orbit over Earth, Mars and Titan than see a lunar station. The HE3 mining story justifying a lunar base seems a nonsense excuse to me. With these, we could do real, steadily growing exploration across our planetary system.
As to the author’s note that the Dragon capsule only fits 4, I would remind the earlier versions fit 7, and with such high numbers of people working in space, I’m sure SpaceX would revisit that design specifically as a lifeboat.
