So during the Invictus Event I had an attack of the vapours, melted an F8c and some other bits and upgraded an A1 to a Percius...

I love the 600i and think it's a great size so the Percy being the same felt like the bright move at the time but now it's sinking in there is a crew requirement which doesn't fit my play being mostly short-session solo.

Have I made a savvy move or a rod for my back?

My thanks goodly TESTies and I will likely call upon your aid in future years when I get a week off work here and there, however my IRL life is very different to what it used to be back when I answered the call in 2015. If I get an hour and a half a week to play I'm lucky and being in the UTC time zone means it's unlikely our schedules will match up hence why I was minimum crew heavy in my craft choices until now, even the 600i can roll solo quite well at this point in time...

...I think the Percy it's going to end up a hangar queen or on most-of-the-time-loan to the TEST fleet pool where it can at least get some use :-) I don't think I'd have got any use out of the F8c but the A1, I'm feeling that may not have been a great idea.

Same with he time though I am actively keeping out of the game mostly. I dip in to do security checks on the account and to test flight changes but i don't want to get jaded and burnt out before it even releases.

I am from the UK like you.

I kinda..... did something.. and have most of the ships so if needed, almost any ship can be tested out if you need. Ngl, had trouble finding the Perseus in there. Seems small now. That's the Idris M

Painful though it may be to say, the F8C is terrible and unlikely to get significantly better in it's role as a heavy fighter. No matter what they do to it's chassis performance, it's guns are too small to be meaningful in attacking the larger targets once CIG implements their planned armor and shield changes.

To wit, you appear to have made a good choice, but it WILL force you to play with a group :)

I’ve learnt a long time ago that a ships stats are not set in stone. The F8C is in a bad spot right now but it probably won’t be the case forever. Anyway these days I’m all about form over function and the F8C’s one sexy ship.

I must admit the best advice I got in regard to SC was to consolidate upwards.

A respectable pledge today may be a year+ grind in the final game, I can play to get an A1, but a Percy or Endeavour could be a serious commitment to attain in 'Verse :glorious:

So here's my take on this, as another 'generally solo' player.
1.) F8C is useless, no loss there at all IMO. If you want a solo a heavy fighter, I think the MX, Vanguards, and even SuperHornet are all better options, both now AND going forward.
2.) Hercs are in general about the biggest ships you can solo effectively, and I expect it'll stay that way too. Now, A2 is awesome if you like/use the bombs, but I'd venture to guess as a solo player you actually DON'T bomb stuff all that often. I also wouldn't be surprised if CIG moved removed the bombing capability from the pilot seat in the A2 before too long. Though it's unloved now, my guess is the larger cargo and heavy armor will really make the M2 shine in the long run.
3.) While Hercs are the most EFFECTIVE solo big ships, that doesn't at all mean you CAN'T solo other big ships. I solo my Carrack and Polaris All. The. Time. Is it a pain and does everything take longer? Well yeah, but especially with the PD turrets on the Polaris, it's really quite fun to park it and then fly a light fighter out of the hangar. I'm expecting similar fun to be capable, if a little clumsy, with the Perseus in the future. In fact I'm eyeing one myself, but haven't quite pulled the trigger on the chain yet.
4.) For a all-around solo ship, let me throw out the new Asgard as a contender to the Herc. No it's not as big, but it's still pretty darn capable and damn is it just a joy to USE. Just a thought!
5.) 600i IMO will ENTIRELY depend on IF/how it's touted rework pans out. As it stands now I feel it just sucks compared to a Connie, but I'm holding on to mine in the HOPE that changes but damn we've been teased about that for SO LONG now. . .
6.) Currently Perseus is $675 and A1 is $750, so you always *could* re-upgrade to an A1 if you really wanted. . .

That'd be the A2, I had the little A1 with 10 s5 eggs in It but that's a great point the Crusader A2 is a capable single person Wagon :-)
