And I couldn't be happier! I've been waiting for a new laptop for these to drop and the benchmarks are more than I could've dreamed.

It appears the card has the full blown power of the desktop card, only slightly downgraded to account for smaller connectors. And since laptops have started enjoying liquid cooling systems these past few generations, overheating will not be as big a problem as my old one.

Anyone else been waiting on these? I tried to find a 1080m but it seems there's only the 60 and 70 out right now. Might have to wait til Sept. (My birthday...hint hint :D)

P.S. It beat out a Titan X!!! Barely, but still!

To get a 1080m for my Clevo, my local builder here told me it's pretty much impossible at the moment to order. Cost is 1175 just for the GPU, wholesale.

Also, the mobile 1080 is only a few percent slower than the desktop sku. Same chip, same core count, same vram. Just binned and underclocked.

Would love to put one in my gaming laptop I got last year... But next hardware purchase is directed toward desktop computer build.
I built my desktop two years ago so now it's time for a laptop.

Yeah, they appear to be mostly sold out right now. I would have to wait a few months to afford one anyway.

While I am completely excited about the current gen of GPU's and really hyped as well, it has become clear AMEX will certainly need to pass on this one until the price drops or it becomes a complete necessity. Are these using a MXM interface btw?

I bought an MSI GT80 last year with 980m SLI. I think that'll do for a bit. However, the entire premise of the GT80 is that it's completely upgradable, so I reckon I'll need to drop a set of 1080s into this beauty...
Maybe next year. Haha.

The you'll just want to hold till the 2160s...and then the 4320... And don't get even started when it's the 17360... I think that's when they are going to put smell-e-vision in it....

Hah! I'm actually holding for 11xx in my desktop. But I needed a new gaming laptop so figured I'd wait for 10xx since I needed to save up the money anyways.

Really need to decide if I get a 1080m or settle for a 60/70. Since the 80 is a little better than Titan it will definitely run SC on max and it's all I'll need for years. However, it's incredibly expensive...

I hate settling for things when it'll be better in the long term to spend a little extra. What you think guys?

No it's not. Your using the best there is right now, though 1060 i.e N17E-G1-A1 MXM 3.0B cards are supposed to be the same regular sized 80mm x wtvr cards like your 980M's are. They will also be a small improvement on efficiency and about the same on performance. however the 1070 and 1080 ie N17E-G2/G3-A1's are larger, and 180W cards, they do not even directly replace the 980DT card that was out last year-2015, as that is a smaller card and still not the same.

The reason the newer cards won't work is they are missing the volt regulators and require external power.Auxilary power from another source. NVidia is now boastin how laptop sales have never been so high for NVidia... derp - because they forced everyone to buy new ones, and thier drivers stopped supporting windows 7 2 years ago and were left at driver versions 344.xx and as of version 361.xx where DX12 starts... older windows 7 crashes most games now on newer hardware.

There is no M variant. However, the 1060 will be the same old variations you had before 2014. the 1070 and 1080 will continue to be unique versions similar to like the desktop version of the 980 from 2015.
