IMO any resolution less than 4k per eye is Not Ready For Prime Time
That was my thought as well. However I have a DK1, DK2 and a CV1 Rift, and each one was better than the last.

Thus I'm interested to see what going from 1k to 2.5k does. Maybe it's OK. I had hoped for 4k (maybe there is a CV2 Rift around the corner sometime?) but 2.5k is still a big jump up.

I'll be sure to let you know!

Im skeptical.. what kind of performance can this thing pull off as a stand alone VR headset at that resolution?

If its limited to certain games which are cheap to render... maybe.

EDIT: Giving it some thought, I guess the equivalence here is PC game vs mobile version...

Think of it as playing Fortnite on your phone vs your home PC.
With how big AAA game companies have been using greasy business practices and lying, I wonder if it's "all in one" system with different components. As in, it's got a base unit like a console that the headset and hand units connect to. The system is "No PC needed!" because it's a console. That's something I could see Zuckerberg doing to try and get everyone including the PC users to buy it even if it isn't compatible with a PC and works solely as a console.

I respect your opinion.

I choose not to use their other products, but the Oculus... I make an exception for that. IMO it's the one thing they do that actually benefits me as much or more than it does them. 🙂
I wonder if it could collect data to sell for adds. If anything they could make it display adds on startup or make you watch an add to connect to the controllers.

Modems? Maybe, but we tended to drag our massive computers and CTR’s to each other’s houses and set up a LAN which required terminators
Wait did you just reference BNC network cable terminators? That's the first time I've heard someone mention the archeotech outside of class.

Back in my day you had to get off your ass and go outside and physically go round to your friends house
LOL, I was born just early enough and poor enough for gaming as a young kid. We had to go outside and play in the yard or woods and creek, and learn how to catch critters, set things on fire, form blades out of random things, chop things up and chop things down, learn to destroy things and hide big rocks in the road with grass so that the school buss would run them over, and form long run on sentences talking about what they did as a kid.

At the Oculus Connext Conference John Carmack has said the headset is about as powerful as an Xbox 360 or PS3.

That will be a pass from me.

I guess that is to be expected of the first gen.
Yes, although by the time it launches it may be 2 gererations behind consoles - and miles away from PC graphics. I think it will have a lot of life in an arcade setting.
