So how would you go about off loading the mined ore from a prospector onto another ship, ON SITE, then return to mine again until all replacement ore containers are filled and loaded? Argo? That's the only option I can think of. One person control cargo ship responsible for keeping a look out, maybe a Taurus or Carrack, another person on standby with an Argo, and the other mining with prospector.
Would be really nice to have a multicrew ship big enough to carry a prospector and a Argo and have enough space to haul all the mined ore from the prospector. I mean yeah there's the Orion but I'm thinking more of a crucible type small fleet mining vessel that has a prospector and argo on board, With good shields and decent enough armament to defend against pirates until help can arrive or maybe ability to launch snub nose fighter. Although this would probably be considered OP. Almost like a small carrier made for multiple cargo crews. What you guys and gals think? How do you think on site mining would work with a small crew of 3-5 people?
Only thought this up because me and 2 other people began discussing how we would go about mining if its just the three of us.
So basically in order to transport cargo from the prospector to the cargo ship you would need the Argo. But we would need a ship capable of transporting both the Argo and the cargo itself. So the question would probably be, to our knowledge, what ship is capable of hauling an Argo and have enough room for the cargo after all prospector ore containers have been loaded?

My speculation is that if in space, zero G would allow a player to move the cargo container into a cargo ship with relative ease. But on a terrestrial surface, I imagine some machines/tools that CR and Tony Z were talking about on 10 FTC will come into play.

As far as fleet operations go, you, in your prospector, and maybe another person with a freelancer or taurus (depending on how much ore you want to mine), and lastly an escort fighter. It all largely depends on how much ore you wanna haul back and forth at a time. If you are by yourself, you would just fill up your saddle bags and head back to the station to sell, and repeat.

Larger operations incorporating multiple mining ships will need a bit more coordination and definitely some escorts and haulers. If you havent made your way to the groups page yet, Rock Raiders would love to have you with us! We like rokz!

Thanks for the reply. Interesting statements and I thought about looking into other groups but not sure if I'm ready for that yet. Will keep it in mind.

Also I believe I found the answer thanks to a kind Citizen on the RSI forums:

My only hope is such as the "jack" will be implemented in 3.0. Would be stupid if they didn't.

Honestly this may be where the Idris-P comes into play. Without the massive railgun on the front end, I know a lot of folks have been wondering what good is an Idris-P? My solution is to bring it to support mining operations. The Orion's can munch rocks in orbit while the Idris and 2 Prospector's can land on the planet and mine. The Idris acting as the base of operations of course.

The reason I say 2 Prospector's and not three is because the third slot I would leave for a rover of some type to act as a carrier of the "side satchels" of ore. It can go to and from while the Prospector's mine uninterrupted.

This does leave all ships involved open to attack but I would imagine this build to be a part of a fleet which means you would have escort anyways.

Just my 2 aUEC.
