Since the holiday PvP event that @Knax set up was so much fun, with some great guidance from @O-Lefty, I thought I would post an idea for feedback. @Myre mentioned playing to capture a hammerhead during the PvP event, and that led me down this road. I haven't tried to set one of these up, so critique is welcome.

Capture the Starfarer and its Cargo
  1. Starfarer with cargo (how full can vary) needs to be left opened, unlocked, and powered off(derelict) at a specific OM around Hurston known to both teams.
  2. Teams begin from truck stops as close to equidistant from the OM as possible
  3. Players cannot spawn ships until the mission starts, after a countdown (trying to simulate a report of a derelict ship having just gone out/been intercepted)
  4. Ship restrictions - no starfarers
  5. Players should have weapons/armor of their choosing – no grenades.
  6. Teams will attempt to reach the starfarer, board it, and then fly (and escort if chosen) back to the truck stop they started from.
  7. Starfarer exterior doors can only be closed from the pilot/command seat (to simulate all power being off prior to one team reaching command consoles)

Win Conditions:
  1. Return the Starfarer to your team’s starting truck stop armistice zone, with one member of your team in pilot seat
  2. Kill all members of opposing team
  • Destruction of the Starfarer is a loss and a reset for all

Cool idea, however if this supposes to be Capture The Flag PVP, I think you would have to add that it is not allowed to use ship weapons. On the other hand... Valkyries with their miniguns, providing close air support...

As for the starting point, the target would have to be located between two outposts, which would be used as starting points for both teams -- otherwise the team arriving from the closer Truck Stop would always arrive first on site. And by the way, both teams would have to use the same transport ship : )

I was thinking that each team could spawn whatever ships they wanted to achieve the goal. You might want to have a warlock/hawk/raven with you if the other team starts moving the starfarer so you can EMP them and then try and board and take out the crew.

The other team may want to have a fighter or two to address said warlock/hawk/raven, while avoiding destroying the starfarer.

I like the idea of it being in space, and the starfarer is probably the easier bigger ship to board via EVA, but it may prove difficult/impossible to find an OM that is equidistant from truck stops. I haven't checked yet.

Edit: Looks like HUR L1 and HUR L2 are pretty close to equidistant from Hurston, and could likely work.

Why not go full CTF? Or in this case, capture the cargo. You have 2 Starfarers that you park however far apart, each with some cargo in them. 2 teams compete to see who can get the most of the other team's cargo into their Starfarer.

Edit: I mean in addition to doing this idea. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun

I like the idea of capture the Starfarer, but it seems to me that once one guy gets inside (from a dropship flyby) that they'll just fly off and there's nothing anyone else can do. Maybe make it so the Starfarer doesn't move but both teams are tasked with retrieving cargo boxes from it similar to @DarthMunkee 's suggestion? That way both teams are attacking but there is a common objective that doesn't shut down from one guy taking control. The winning team is the one with the most cargo boxes at the end of the engagement.

would an emp hit fail to stop the starfarer? I thougth it would

peope could also travel to the opposing team's truck stop and try and emp/jump the starfarer there.

Though, if an EMP won't stop the ship, then that part simply won't work

I'm not sure, we have 3 different flavours of EMP currently and 2 different types of starfarers. Would the Gemini hold up better? This might warrant testing.

Keep it as simple as possible.
My only concern would be if one player got to it quickly it could be QT'd away. Rather than returning it to somewhere via QT, maybe land it at a specific location on Hurston without a no fire zone. So we could have a running battle in the air. Then a final attack on the Starfarer on the ground. Oh no I'm repeating O-Lefty a bit.

And I do not see the relevance of the cargo, being in the Starfarer.

My thought for the cargo being there was more obstacles to get around/hide behind in trying to take or defend the ship.
