For about a year I tried to play EvE on a Hughes satellite link, 2013/14 timeframe. Those are geosynchronous orbit, and the lag was epic, sometimes over 1 second.

Starlink offers some interesting possibilities if you have a situation where the dish can see the sky. Jeff Gerling and a few other youtubers have done some videos on it's use.

Ya the only sat that has a chance is starlink all of the others have anywhere between 400 to 1000 ping due to geo orbit to ground station and depending on where that link is to the server your attempting to connect to. Sat is ok for streaming but is miserable for anything real time even phone calls have a noticeable delay as does web chat.

I have used geosynchronous satellite, I still have an account but I haven't used it for 2 or 3 years. It isn't fun to do anything that otherwise requires real time. I'm locked into that contract for another 2 months. For me it's better to use a cell phone link even with the limits. I'm waiting with bated breath to see what StarLink delivers.

If you can float the $100+ USD per month, Starlink may be a good alternative. So far the few people I know who have it seem to have had little issues besides noticeable speed difference as constellations change.
Right now according to their site it's not available for my area yet but is planned or I would It says expanding in 2023 .

That's a good idea I don't know how big an area they use to determine the usage but I live way out in the country and the whole county is pretty rural I will haft to look into that .
