It would be interesting to know what the motivation(s) people have for voting on each pairing are, as I imagine that the reason would likely change based on the ships involved...

Some of the reasons I can see people choosing one ship over another are:
  • They think the ship is better than the alternative
  • They own the ship and want a reward\new paint for having it
  • They hope for a WarBond (discount) CCU for the ship at IAE if it can make it to the final 4
  • They don't want the other ship in the pairing to win (Terrapin Vs Carrack?), due to not having it/it has won enough in the past/not liking it/etc.
  • They want the (cheaper) ship to win as it's something they (or others) may be able to afford at the event
  • They hope it will become a referral reward (generally for ships with an MSRP under $40)
  • CIG's "bribe" (1 month of free access\use of the ship) would allow them to fly something they can't afford either via cash\credits or aUEC.

I'm surprised that CIG don't try to capture this sort of information, as it would seem to be something that would help their marketting teams, as well as possibly provide direction for future ship development.

This is not asking for people to provide their reasons for specific choices here, but was merely something I had wondered about and hadn't seen anyone discuss here or elsewhere.
For me, it's flair for my ships.

For me it's almost always been this, but my main reason always been "the one I like the look of more".

Except for when I owned the Argo Cargo. I was hoping that the win would finally make CIG do something with it, add local taxi missions (which are being promised to be here next patch for over like 5 years now?). Also to spit in the face of the whales and overly serious fanatics hehehehe

Why do you believe they don't? It's sales information.

For me it is usually a matter of which ship I like more.
However, there are occasions (like when I voted for the Redeemer) where I voted for a ship in the unrealistic hope it'd make it far enough that CIG would have to look at the mess they made of the ship then reprioritize it on the backlog to rework it back into a ship that can actually reasonably fulfill the intended role. (Yes, I know this is completely unrealistic and they'll eventually get around to it, but I still feel badly for the owners of the Redeemer even though I'm not one of them.)

It did make me happy that the Carrack lost in the first round to a ship that looked to be intended to be a can (the brackets did look like CIG was aiming for putting the Corsair up against the 890 then the Carrack against the winner of that, hopefully the Cutter can pull off a spoiler like the Terrapin.)

I have no idea about the choices made. I fully expected the cutty black to blow the Connie out of the water, and the carrack to handily defeat the terrapin.

I think either CIG has their hands on the scales (unlikely), or there is a huge counter culture push out there.
at this point, the 60 might win out over the 400, and the cutter over the 890

I'd say that offering all players 1 month free use of the overall winning ship could be considered putting their hands on the scales... Particularly with regards to the final pair of the first round.

I'm absolutely counting on that.
I mean, it's the Cutter!
Who doesn't love that little bucket of rusty and sometimes dubious components?
It's probably goint to face off against the Corsair for first place.
DRAKE Derby baby! :o7:

(Though if it does end up head to head with the iron turtle it's most likely going to fall apart. ;-))

Either would be meme worthy, but I am hoping for the Corsair to pull off the overall win.

For the past hour they've stayed ~50 votes apart.

Cutter vs 890 Jump?
Easy win for the cutter.
It lacks the pool but also no 20 Pirates can board it.
THAT'S security! :-P

Calling it for Redeemer, Vulture, Corsair, Cutter.... like, no one ever could have seen that coming. Not rigged in any way at all, no sir, we are completely beholden to the community vote. Honest. We are.

Just a PSA about how popularity contests include the whims of those who organize them.

And no, I don't personally care, beyond what it tells me about the thought processes of the Marketing Dept. and the tools they use to build hype.

I was shocked by the 890, but after talking with my buddy, he said that if the 890 was actually available and not sitting SOLD OUT in the store it may have gone differently. Also the 890s are selling for $1200+ on the black and grey markets. I will not pay that for it but I will use my Store credit to get one if they are ever available.

Funny how the "obvious truths" change as time goes by.
Though I admit that things look up for Drake.
3 Ships in the final 8?
Way ta go ya scuvies... :o7:

LoL, not sure how obvious any of it is.. I was channeling a spot of reddit on this post. Having said that, Drake as a manufacturer has had much attention recently so it's very predictable that they would represent strongly here, with ships that are useful as the game currently exists.

Can't argue with your logic Ayeteeone. Drake sure got the numbers both in ship entries and in fanbase. They'll have at least two runner-ups in the fab four so even an All-Drake finale is possible.
Personaly I expect Redeemer vs. Corsair for the final bout.
Seeing how the rails are laid out... .-p
