Smuggler Heads Up!

I have an idea and want to know if some smugglers ore traders ( pirates are also welcome we need escorts) want to help me to realise this idea?

I think a home world is great and important but for traders ore smugglers a mobile base like a carrier ship would be much better. A big ship what carry a lot of our illegal stuff and many of our little smuggler ships who can plan there next smuggler rout together.

Good points of a mobile base:
Our enemy's have more problems to set a trap for our little smuggler ships because they don't know where oure base is.

If we get attacked and our base base can move out of the enemy range and can jump to a save place like our home world or some other place.

On our ship we can store more illegal goods and if we need more we can jump to the next place where we can buy it.

Bad points of a mobile base:

If oure base get attacked of a large group and we are far away of oure home world and can't flee we get destroyed so it's also a big risk to have a mobile base.

A large carrier is expensive so maybe if I can raise it I buy a big ship for this group ore if enough of you guys want to join me maybe we can buy one together. Maybe we can buy more then one and make it bigger then I think at first.

Alone we can't make it we need the support of a pirate group ore someone how can help us if we get attacked ore have special cargo and need an escort. So a contract with an other organisation is necessary.

I don't know which of the ships are suitable for my idea so maybe one of you have a suggestion. ( We need a larg cargo hold, a landing bay and a lot of guns)

I hope many of Test members are interested and bring a lot of ideas in this discussion.

Ps.: sry for my bad English if something isn't readable or you can't understand it I try to discribe it for you.

Pps.: take a German beer out of my cargo of my Aurora CL.

Greetings Tsukihi

AFAIK carrier class ships are not dockable, so you would need to have crew on board 24/7 to defend one

good luck finding volunteers for watchman duty, it would be as exciting as watching paint dry

It might be worth looking at a mobile fleet instead of a capital ship. So maybe a few cargo Caterpillars, maybe even a higher class Hull series and a bunch of Escorts, that way it does everything you want from a large ship but:
1) We can log out and keep everything safe
2) If we are heavily attacked, we can all split in different directions and reduce the amount of ships/cargo we lose.

EDIT: I just remebered the Caterpillar Docking Module that allows you to attach four other ships to your Cat (Connie's in the ATV Episode Example). With one of those you effectively have an amost capital sized ship base to store and move stuff around in but it can be separated easily if attacked.

Sounds like the only way it can go with the ships we can buy at the moment. But it also sounds good, when I write the post above I think about freelancer and the big battleships where you have a bar and a shop but I think that's never get implemented in the game.

Thanks for your post and your ideas.

It would be great to have such a ship where we can chill in an orbital smugglers bar but realistically we just won't have the numbers to staff a 24/7 ship, let alone people who want to. I want to be flying and fighting, not sitting for hours at a capital ships radar desk.

While it would need some work and more details on getting it to work overall I think the idea is interesting. As a pirate myself I would mind doing an escort detail when I can. The thing is you will need to balance presence with safety, when I think smuggler I think someone light and fast who gets in and gets out. In this case you would have the smugglers moving too and fro but have a fat target with an escort group. It may peak people's interest and make them wonder what exactly is going on. So if your escort group isn't large enough they could drop a superior force and catch that high value target.

In that case I think you would need an escort group as they will be the arms of the operation. Along with some scouts to be the eyes of the group so you can have some type of forewarning of any incoming ships. Basically an early detection system to warn you so that you can start getting the target moved out before there are ships dropping on your heads. Overall though the mobile base is a good idea as it can have multiple uses including mobile staging in war, mining, exploration. A good avenue to look into.

One of the best ways to get around this. Team up with someone flying a regular cargo load and have them act as a bait ship. Have the escort with them, with them following roughly the same route you want to take. Basically Smokey and the Bandit them would work well too.

If you had your mobile smuggler base, doesn't the game allow you to hire NPC crew who could man the defenses for this ship rather than have players on watch duty?

Good point. I guess then it just comes down to who would pay for them and also, if you have say an Idris, do you trust it entirely in the hands of NPC's while you log off and go to bed...

Not really sure that smuggling is a "base" mentality organization. Smuggling requires discreet pickup and delivery in a timely fashion. You wouldn't be storing goods anywhere except the hold of the delivery ship, and definitely not for long periods of time.

My hope is to have a base of operations planet-side that gives us a good location for branching out. Your own ship should give you a haven when out further doing runs.

The key won't be the base, it will be the communication between org members, ship loadouts, captains, and escorts when needed.

Get in. Get out. Get paid. The smuggler's way.

My plan is to just own a ton of accounts and use the hanger space on each one to store stolen goods safely.

Police won't raid your hanger.
That would be boring and shitty.
