I upgraded my Mustang and got my self an all singing all dancing F7

I still suck!

I do have my Constellation which I plan on doing some fun stuff with " Like looking at it and marvelling at it's sexiness!"

So should I try and get better at my Pew Pew or shall I train myself up to be the best damn drunk "mother loving" Ships captain in the Galaxy?

Honestly I wouldnt worry to much about sucking at this point in the game.

Since Arena Commander has started, we've had 3 wildly different aiming models, ship handling is changing (for better or worse...) with every patch, weapons and ships have yet to be seriously balanced, etc etc etc.

It's all still a WIP and is going to remain so for the next few months at the earliest. So, in my humble opinion, kick back, relax, play around in some Vanduul Swarm or private matches, and just focus on having fun. When Arena Commander is "feature complete", then I think a lot of people will buckle down and start playing seriously.

And if, worse case scenario, you do end up just sucking beyond redemption as a dogfighter pilot, you could always be the pilot of some larger ships (Retaliator, Idris, Caterpillar, Redeemer, etc etc) and let other people gun for you while you focus on flying. Or vice versa, be a dedicated turret gunner.

Or maybe non-combat roles are your things (SAR, mining, Electronic Warfare, who knows?) I know there are some people in TEST that don't really care about the ship combat much at all, and are really wanting to be an FPS/boarding specialist. The verse is your oyster, fellow TESTie.

I feel your pain. I suck pretty bad too but I really want to try. I hear what @AntiSqueaker is saying but there is no reason you can't have fun while learning to suck less.

Here are some age old wisdom I gotten from people better than me.
-Learn to fly first, before learning to shoot. You can learn flight mechanics in the racing module.
-Learn to shoot with Vanduul Swarm. This is just for the basics.
-Then when you feel up to it, Battle Royal to go against other players.
-You can do all of this in multiplayer with TEST members using MUMBLE.
-Straffing is good, it helps a lot but you have to know the rest first.

I'm sure other people have other suggestions as well and there are "Dogfighting for Dummy" guides but they might be outdated and mileage will vary.

The point is, YES! you can. If it is fun for you to get good at AC now and you don't mind the game changing once in a while, do it. If it gets boring and you'd rather play something else, do it.

I'm not sure but this may be grounds for a promotion. To what I don't know. As other have said though just take time and learn stuff one step at a time. Freefly mode would be great for this because you can practice flying without the pressure of fighting as well. Try dodging asteroids.

Try different ships, so far I've done shittly in a cutlass, hornet, mustang, avenger, and the entire 300i series. The last couple of days I've been playing with the lowly aurora LN and I got up to wave 11, as opposed to the usual 5(if I'm lucky). Maybe I finally learned how to fly, or maybe it's my spirit-ship...

I agree so much with Space Monkey. Basically what he said. I won't really be having tons of fun until I can climb into my Banu, start up my Bazaar, and be making tons of fun. That's just me though. Do I occasionally have fun sucking in Arena Commander? Yeah of course! It's fun to shoot the shit with fellow TESTies and not fret too much. Besides, Star Citizen will be much larger open space, you won't necessarily be in a weird battle royale type match like AC has 90% of the time.
