So proud of my daughter’s indie film project! (Plus a cameo by my '95 F150)

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share a major proud parent moment. My daughter, Yumna Jane, wrote, co-directed, and starred in an indie film project called There Should Be Flowers. She had to put it on the back burner for a while after a brutal summer, but things are finally gaining some serious momentum! Our friends, family, and neighbors all contributed as extras or provided access to locations.

It was a total grassroots effort funded almost completely by Yumna, friends, our family, and some donations from her fund raising site after the initial filming. Her friend Maddie brought the technical filmmaking know-how, managing to secure equipment lent by a college, while a group of fellow students took it on as their senior project. They absolutely crushed it.

My wife and I basically served as the ultimate roadies—hauling heavy gear, feeding the crew, playing airport chauffeur for the actors, and taking care of all the grunt work. They even featured my old 1995 F150 (affectionately known as "Eddie") as the main vehicle in the movie! Who knew my dump runner would be needed by a younger generation?

The movie is written from a LGBTQIA+ perspective, if that is a non-starter for you please stop here and have a great day.

Otherwise if you have a few minutes, I’d love for you to take a look and check out their hard work:

Ouch.
That movie looks like it will hurt.
As it should.
Proves something's still alive in there.
So any chances this is coming to a cinema, festival or streaming service anytime soon?
PS: Supportive parents rule! 😎 👍

I know Maddie was pushing Yumna to get it out to the film festivals but I have not asked her. Maddie would be the best one to ask, at this stage my daughter will not talk about it due to how she handles hope and stress. She is one of those people who think if they talk about something it will never be as good as it could have been. I will also say she was perfect for the part because she seemed to just be herself in the movie.

Well then, nothing to do than keep an eye out for Indie Film Festivals and such. Well it's OpenAir Season and we got a lot of Festivals around here.
Maybe I get lucky, who knows? 😎

I’ve worked on my fair share of Indie films earlier in my career. Let me start by saying a big Congratulations to your daughter! Most people have zero idea the amount of blood, sweat, and tears that it takes to go into a feature film.

If she ever finds herself up in Vancouver, let me know. I can get her in touch with the local film community.
