I'd have to check. It was a gift. I know it was somewhere in top 5 of best reviews. Though I must admit, wife may be less inclined to agree to this if I keep adding to the cost.

EDIT: the PSU is about as old as the rest of the rig.
It won't really matter if its old. If its good, it's good. Just make sure its good. : )
Caps go bad over time for sure. If you have a unit with good caps, it'll work until it wont.

I didn't meant that it might go out soon. I just meant that it was an older model.

I'll look into it and I'll definitely post more information as I go along and get your opinions on things.

You know what, that is a fantastic idea. You could also offer to enter people into a raffle if they contribute and make it more visible. @Harkuno was really successful with his raffle.
I say do it. I'll be happy to contribute a few bones.
Haha, I'm not sure what I'd raffle. My scrap paper? I'm not skilled enough to come up w/ something like the stickers.

I'll donate a dirt cheap steam game for your raffle, I know the pain of trying to play SC on socket 775 ;)
I can actually donate a Merlin or this stein (I think I want to add the Tears of Our Enemies bit). I won a Merlin through a raffle and I can't think of anything better than to pay it forward.

Maybe if you get enough, you can get these as well:

Those are actually THE ones I was looking at on newegg except for PSU, I've only glanced at those. I was looking at the ones on tigers direct because it was a cheaper deal, newegg is out of stock on their socket 1151 i5's, and tigers direct just didn't have anything for the 1151 socket. I'm sure I'll do a little more digging to see if I can find other deals.

Sure. If you're gonna do the raffle might as well try for something a little better. : ) You can always fall back on the lower grade stuff if you don't reach your goal. Just make sure you have enough for an SSD.

I've got the EVGA750, I'm very happy with it, very quiet, nice cables, and it even comes with a clip to jumper a PSU to test it.

If you do rack up enough cash to go with an SLI capable mobo, you might want to think about a beefier supply to be able to power two cards (in like, 10 years, once your wife has stopped being bitter that you spent $1000 to build a computer to fly internet spaceships on)

HAHA. It was always the plan to get a beefier PSU before I upgrade the cards. The one I have should handle the new mobo, cpu and ram for now. I'll definitely look at it though. Right now I'm formatting the HD and reinstalling. Bad files that I'm too lazy to track down. A terrible upgrade from Win7 to Win10 that was causing some incompatibilities in things.

As for a raffle, I'll definitely look into it over the course of the week.

EDIT: GoFundMe link up for those who wish to help

Honestly most people will never run SLI. It's is often better to run a single high end card vs two mid range cards. So a motherboard with vertical connectors are kinda a meh to me unless you have a ton of drives.
