While I wish this was a good sign I have to agree with @Richard Bong that its more that they are not being good about updating the teacker then things are wrapping up. In fact i would say the sq42 email is a better indicator of the state of the game and it still has them working on core mechanics.

As for this year's citizencon I'm far more optimistic as to the road to Pyro. I really hope that we get to see Pyro and 4.0 drops shortly after like they did with 3.0. While multiple locations will not be shared onto different game servers it would be easy 2000 tech to use the jump gate as a gate between game servers and allow flight between Stanton and Pyro.

But I realize that I'm still overly optimistic and drinking the CIG kool-aid as evident by the amount spent.
Let's hope you are right and they will go with the non mesh, quasi loading screen of the wormhole. Something many of us said should have been done when they first showed off an almost complete pyro 2 years ago.

I think we should prepare for the worst case scenario judging by the last couple of years. Cig showing off all the ¥cool" things they wanna add and update the tracker with, for the next five years instead of just finishing SQ42.

This. I fell in love with Tali. I have all the modules. It could be a decent ship overall once blade and NPC turrets come in...no ones drawn a pixel on my Tali in 10 years, and like big boom boom guns
This is the crux of it for me. I bought the tali and all the dropship and cargo modules, but then they released two dedicated drop ships, and there's multiple cargo ships with similar capacity that can shoot back from the pilot seat. The further we get away from 2013, the less likely I will have IRL friends who would play with me and crew turrets. As I get older (and Star citizen remains unreleased) I've got to shift towards solo-able ships, or at the very least ships with fewer crew positions. Nobody wants a second best ship with insanely high crew requirements. Even if it looks insanely good in flight.

This is why I got married and had kids. Hopefully they will want to play SC with me when it comes out. That being they are not to old to be off trying to start their own careers and thus no time for video games with dad. Figure since the oldest is 8 I have 12 years left.

The original plan was a three step process with server mesh

Phase 1. One server per game world (current) bring up object container streaming to allow persistence.
Phase 2. Allow multiple servers to support a game world. Allow player entities and the object container to be handed off between servers at fixed borders (easiest would be worm holes as a slight pause would be tolerable) could also be boundaries in space between major solar elements ie Stanton Microtech. That way you cross the boundary while in warp.
Phase 3 server mesh allows player attached entities to be seamless passed between servers based upon dynamic boundaries.

Honestly the server tech is not difficult as they already have done the heavy lifting with serializing objects. There are some edge cases in regards to boundary placement to allow for the minimalist disruption when being transfered across game world states. Specifically dynamic objects on the otherside of the boundary as this would add client complexity on getting game world state updates from multiple servers and potential resource bottlenecks for the client.

I know how I would tackle this as it's stuff I deal with daily but not sure how CIG intends on addressing it.

Well yeah thy got the steps but does it still make sense with 2 years in delays? I'd expect some felxibitlity in that regard..
Anyway, I hope you didn't just marry and have kids to play SC with. There are so many more fun multiplayer games to breed playmates for hahahah
