Well @Montoya is normal that you )and most of other player) don't like the prison conseguences: they are meant not to be liked.
On the other hand if you manage to mine some chunks even ot Aphorite your serivce time goes down quite fast: you can get rid of a couple of hours of service time in like 30', problem is not mining, is surviving others envicted player while doing it (that's the real punishment).

FYI, if you get stuck in prison, look for the Oxygen venting missions. If you don't see them, hop servers. Doing one or 2 can eliminate several hours from your prison time. Don't ask me how I know lol
A stealthy shiv and an oily soap will save you from many tricky situations in prison ;)
