So Disney has announced a surprise but for an audience, with Ryan Gosling dressed like Luke Skywalker. I can’t say it’s a bad idea to try to go back to their roots, but Ryan isn’t young, so they’re not trying the “boy becomes a man” plot. We’ll have to wait some to see. Release of the feature film is due in May ‘27.

A key point in this press release is they presumably have buried the Ray trilogy they’ve been threatening. Public reaction was tepid, so let’s hope they got the clue and have a dope screenplay under wraps.

I like Gosling. He rocked in Blade Runner despite the baby face. I don’t know anything about the Starfighter video games in the past but one supposes the film will honor the games.

My question is whether they can keep Kathleen Kennedy away. Have they learned their lesson?

Weird they went with such a generic name for the movie, especially considering the game...
It's one of those "yeah I remember they had a game with that name, but never played it" kind of games. Like a straight to VHS sequel...
The original game with the same name was a console title from the PS2/Xbox era, later ported to PC, featuring the Naboo starfighter and such Ep1 nonsense that no one really cared for. It was the most generic plain and simple "space sim" you can imagine.
I don't personally know anyone who played it. It was released in 2001, the same year as: IL2 Sturmovik, Black and White, Civ 3, Max Payne, Diablo 2 LoD (expansion), Baldurs Gate 2 ToB (expansion), CnC RA2 Yuris Revenge (expansion)
and tons of other actually notable, good titles.

I liked Gosling in Drive and somewhat in BladeRunner. Haven't seen Barbie yet...
I think it's a mistake to cast such prominent faces in a new disney story as the MC. I'd rather imagine an Alec G. mentoring unknown newface Mark Hamill kind of dynamic with Gosling.
If cast as the MC, I could imagine him doing a similar brooding professional type like in the above mentioned movies, a "super ace fighter pilot who is asked to take on one last job" type of deal, but I don't believe D would make a movie like that.

Disney and honoring the original it's based on? C'mon now hahahahaha

I'm sure KKs name will be on it, but we will have to wait and see if she gets any input anymore.

I like they’re cutting a new path by hiring an A lister to lead. It says they’re serious and after Acolyte, they need some of that. Also, if it succeeds, they have an audience locked in for three feature films. So I have to hope they keep KK away and not force girl power into the story.
