Steam Workshop Paid Mod Fiasco Thing

I'm interested to get you guys' views on this. I know it's a divisive subject at the moment, and I'm not going to start with some rant either way, I just want to know what you guys think about the topic. After all, it could affect all of us as PC gamers.

I don't think there is anything morally wrong with paid mods. I'm not an entitled adolescent. However, paid mods could certainly screw up the entire modding scene. I think the way Valve went about it was poorly thought out. There was no warning. People who already had the mods installed were now being forced to pay for them or not be able to use them.

Personally I would buy very few if any mods. I already don't like getting nickel and dimed on regular DLC. I think what Valve should do right now is allow modders to ask for donations on their mod pages. I don't think they should let them charge for their mods at this time though.
