My first impression is better than hoped. For instance, I’ve never liked the drop seat section, but because they put two rifle slots between each seat, this room adjacent to both the exit and the med bay, serves to provision combatants, like a second armory. Suddenly the space has purpose I hadn’t imagined.

I’m not happy with the four dedicated S3 missile launchers. Twice as many S2 would have been far more useful, especially since Rattlers lock at half the distance of any S3 missiles and do more damage. Given these are really intended to be defensive, S2 would have been a huge improvement. Even the way it is however, this is a big advantage over the Carrack which has no missiles and no guns for the pilot. One might also claim it is a sexier ride.

I’m looking forward to serious comparisons with the Carrack. Both fit two Furies and about the same crew. The drone bay and workbench in the Carrack may give it an edge, but I can’t help like this ship. Just be warned, this class of ship is going to be easier to kill than most people think. It certainly cannot stand up to any of the corvettes.

Here’s a little comparison between the TAC and the Carrack with some additional things to note below.


First off, the firepower is almost a match. 2 of the TAC turrets are 2S4 instead of all 4 turrets 2S5 on the Carrack, but the TAC has missiles. The real problem is the fire arc on the TAC is very limited and can’t focus fire on targets fore the way the Carrack can. BTW, patch 4.1 saw the dorsal turret on the Carrack now slaves to the pilot, so Carrack pilots have guns. Big change.

I still think the drone bay, workbench and cartography suite on the Carrack will be game changing. Carrack crews will want to spend down time on that workbench customizing weapons and armor.

I like the TAC but it seems second class to me. People forget what a great ship the Carrack is. Hard to beat. It’s not as maneuverable as the TAC but it seems better at dozens of things—almost everything. Bigger target but more than twice the hp. Since both are too big to evade, being able to take the hits is key.

Yep. What the TAC offers is the kind of ship we thought we wanted. Instead, we got a slug that dies to an angry C8. I want to like it, especially for PvE gameplay. But until turrets become an actual threat, it's lifeline is the skill of your buddy in the Fury. You do have a friend, right? With LTI and custom paint?

For a tactical version of the Star Lancer it really needed more visibility from the pilot's seat. Not knocking the boat (its rather cool) :o7:

A ship that size shouldn't even feel a C8 if it crushed one under its landing gear touching down.

I like the idea of the TAC, but the delivery is lacking. Slow and cumbersome, it's like a whale wallowing in the shallows as the tide recedes.

I think it's still got potential, but not sure I want to hang on to it for however long it takes to develop.

I'll most likely be melting mine for credit or upgrading it to something else.

I think of all turrets were a minimum of twin S4, and more often 2S5, people would take them more seriously. I hate to ever see a player stuck with 2S2. Who wants to sit that seat? OTOH, 2S5 makes the player sitting gunner growl “come git some!”
