I always suggest buy and fly what is available, rather than wait and wonder what a ship will be like. There is plenty of time to swap out stuff in the future.

The Vangards are going to be hard to beat, especially in atmo.
That and they are smaller so less cost to operate/upgrade. The downside is the Vangard carries I believe 8 units into a drop zone and no room for a ground vehicle. So the Vangard will be great for a surgical strike force like a delta force where the Valkyrie would be more useful for a main offensive moving a platoon into the fray.

That's true, but they're not designed to operate singly. If you put say one sentinel, two Harbingers and three Hoplites together, you have a formidable strike force that can pretend to be something else, and could outfight a Polaris. The nice thing is even though they cost much more, they cost each player less. You only need one to join a group, or just join as second seat. The Sentinal REO is gonna be a kick to play.

It would be interesting to see how well a Polaris would handle 6 Vanguard's, especially since its main armament is torpedoes meant for much larger ships. This is not to discount the many missiles and guns on the Polaris. The main question would be how well would the Polaris shields and armor handle the Vanguards attacks and how effective would its missiles be.

In the end there is going to be situations were the Vanguard will shine and there will be situations were the Valkyrie will shine. Staging a large ground assault against a fortified base and the Hercules and Valkyrie shine. Need to insert a stealth spec ops then the prowler would be your go to. Track a bounty to a hideout or need to recover stole goods from a small bandit encampment then the Vanguard would be a perfect fit.

I CCU ‘ed to a Valk and I gotta say I like the purpose focused gameplay this ship provides. It defiantly feels like a one or two trick pony but it looks like CIG is going to have a heavy focus of ground assault in SQ42 as well as PU.
The Valk is going to be a riot with a couple friends manning the turrets and gunning stations as you swoop in low into a battle zone to pick up or drop off soldiers from site to site.

It also looks to fly quite well in atmo with the multi wing and VTOL configuration, which will be great for holding steady and slow for troops to exit or board. Ships like the vanguard could have some serious difficulty doing the same with the upcoming flight model but it’s hard to say as we only got to play with the flight model in AC at Citcon.

Either way, good things.

It also looks like a good ship for, ahem, "clandestine cargo delivery." Large cargo area, armor, guns, what else do you need? The bright orange paint job is just our way of taunting the opposition.

Interesting as I have my Tally for this kind of thing, fit a dropship bay and a cargo bay. It looks however as if the Valkyrie is better at both than the Tally.

If you don't mind the cargo bouncing around, the Prowler adds stealth to that selection and it doesn't cost much more. I'm still lovin' on the Prowler, 'cause I loves S5 guns. Escort with an Eclipse or three.

Best analysis I've seen so far, and I think a great argument for cargo grav plates in the Vanguard, Prowler and the Valkyrie. This guy is so right that if the notion of protecting gameplay balance requiress flying civilian cargo craft into combat zones, the notion is utterly broken. Troops require cargo!

It is a good argument for adding the ability to use the vehicle bay for limited cargo. I am not sure the argument about real life military needing vast amounts of cargo hold up due to the limited need for food/drink and ammo in the game. But given the freelancer would be a far better cargo carrier it wouldn't unbalance other ships roles.

I haven’t watched the video yet (trying to get two toddlers to bed) but the idea of either cargo or a vehicle makes more sense to me. Maybe make a mag plate that drop-and-locks to the floor ILO a vehicle. Being able to carry both a vehicle and cargo at the same time, (unless it’s your “ruck sack” that’s actually loaded onto/into a vehicle) seems strange in that little space.

Not sure about long-term sustainment needs, but ammo/weapon drops into hot areas would definitely be suited to the Valkyrie. I’m kind of looking at this thing as a glorified shit-hook [chinook] though.
