Info on the Buccaneer from the thread on RSI forums:
"So to close out, again, thank you to everyone who participated. And to keep people a bit more sated in terms of real information, here are a few quick bits of information on the Buccaneer:
- It is planned to have the ability to carry/move cargo, it just doesn’t sit inside the ship.
- While it would have the same size footprint as a Sabre, it won’t be filling as much of that space.
- Its biggest weapons are all planned to allow a full 360 rotational arc from their mount.
- It’s prompting more active exploration and design into fake-component containers for cargo."
That, plus being described as the "Rob Irving Cutlass" (who was a BIG fan of the Cutlass before he left), and touting up it's maneuverability makes me hope it can nail the "pirate fighter with unparalleled maneuverability, not so much focused on cargo" role the Cutlass was originally advertised to have. I would hazard a guess the "carry/remove cargo, it just doesn't sit inside" would mean something like an Aurora underslung cargo rail, so you could scoop up cargo boxes floating around and ferry them back to a Cutlass or Caterpillar for more secure storage.
I hope that if salty Cutlass owners (ie
me) have a great pirate fighter, CIG will buff the Cutlass in some other ways to make it more suitable to the Fighter/Multi-crew hybrid role it now apparently has. Extra armor, heavier weapons, etc etc.
