Ok, what kind of VR headset do you guys recommend?
Pico 4 or Meta 3/3S are pretty great for their money. Can't go wrong with either and so many games to play even without your PC.
I am impressed with the PSVR2 as a headset on PS5 but even with the adapter box it can't show it's true abilities on PC. Though if you got one lying around it's still perfect for the job.
The new Steam VR headset might be out soon too if you want to take a step back and wait.
IF money is not a problem, and given our crowd of proud Idris owners that might as well be so, then I'd suggest the Primax Crystal Super. No one does FOV like those guys. :glorious:
And if you need reviews and tutorials with a focus on VR and Star Citizen there's this one guy you should know: CachiSanchez

in all honesty, i recommend a vive for pc gaming. though the steam headset about to come out will be better and worth the wait. the one thing i have found is power. my quest is limited to a couple hours of play time due to its battery. my vive is wired so i do not have that issue. it makes a big difference especially if your doing a long playtime which star citizen can require at times.

it's ironic that Meta and the hardware manufacturers are now putting their energies into Augmented Reality instead of Virtual

immersive gaming is the one place that VR shines

is gaming too niche a market to drive VR development and bring down prices?

I totally want to fly my spaceships in VR

but I don't want to be seasick

Ya i was thinking the new Valve frame was on my must have purchase list but am concerned about their use of lcd instead of oled especially with SC having so many dark areas.
well, lcd has come a long way, but i am like you on if they can overcome the screen door effect.

vr is really fun, but augmented reality has more applications that make sense in the real world. the ability to have a virtual computer screen in front of you, even multiple screens while being able to see the real world, plus as Ai come more into it you can have augmented reality literally show you how to do things by overlaying reality. that appeal will win more of the masses than vr which is mostly gaming at this point.

AR and VR are two related, but distinct technologies that shouldn't actually be mixed in the same device at least for now. In a nutshell, AR is an overlay over what you can see, and VR replaces what you see. It looks like VR manufacturers are trying to encompass AR though - which is weird when we do AR with nothing more than a pair of smart glasses (*or smart glasses PPE) - and VR with a headset that weighs quite a few times what smart glasses weigh.

I used to lead a team that designed use cases for AR btw, though I stopped a few years ago as manufacturers of AR glasses finally started using the use cases my team (and others) published. and I also fit the visually impaired and laboratory usage buckets.

That said, right now I'm currently interested in something good for especially SC. AR glasses ain't that.

First steps in VR yesterday.
Took some updating and fiddling and PTU installing but finally I got my Meta-3 Glasses ready to go.
Picture quality needs some work
but...
the depth...
It's kinda hard to explain but seeing my beloved Karna rifle open up like a Butterfly as I charge my shot.. It's a thing of beauty.
Also my Corsair in all its 3 dimensional glory.

PS: Ordered the PSVR2 Adaptor for TESTing. Because this is what we do. Also the PSVR2 has OLED displays. And Space needs to be black... 😎

I managed to get vr working with my vive last night and logged in. i was amazed my ships took on a completely new feel and my Polaris was a jaw dropping experience. i have not flown yet because like @Mudhawk stated above the visuals do need a bit of work, i had some flickering types issues. but with my setup i could hit the "/" key on my numpad and go back and forth between my monitor and the vr headset. and finding the button to enter ships in vr is really difficult. I was using a keyboard and mouse with this. I think it is time for a good controller and hotas ( i hope i spelled that right). with those two additions and voice attack flying and moving around in vr is going to be outstanding and the ultimate experience. as of now vr is a bit more than a novelty in star citizen but well worth the jump to get into it as i think it is going to improve quickly in the game. will see you all in the verse.

So there is no way to display in the headset and a monitor at the same time? Or that just demands too much from the hardware?
it was showing side by side screen on my monitor in vr mode tht made it pretty difficult to do anything. but like i had said my setup allows me to use a / key to instantly change to my monitor or vr. it is no hassle at all ( actually very handy) with this setup like it is whe ni get my vr rig done ( a recliner modified to resemble sitting in a ships cockpit) this will be vital as i will use a 32 inch monitor for normal play and switch to vr when i fly for the most part. but also have the chance to have vr any time i want other than flying. also on a multi crew ship that is crewed and out in the verse, i think a monitor will be vital as vr seems ot be a bit slower for you to respond it situations where you need to react fast.

I was thinking about having some small audience while in VR. Makes you seem less disconnected from those around you. 15” laptop screen is enough.

I’ve noticed MSI is sneaky, putting i7 is some Katana gaming machines and i9 in others. My investigations thus far suggest i9 is the way to go.

No problem as most VR Headsets support streaming in some way or another.
As an example, the Meta app allows for a mirrored display of whatever happens in the privacy of your headset.
So remember to disable that before watching p**n... 😚

Not so sure about that. Thanks to the better sense of space in VR changing componets is a tick faster than in Flatmode.
Same with stacking crates and such. Reminds me, I still have to Hyperjump in VR...
Oh well... tonight... 😼
