If you check just prior to the collision, you can see the pilot moving along at supercruise, clearly lining up their carom shot in supercruise. They ricochet off the ring, and come in on a perfect intercept trajectory.
Gotcha. I'm watching on a phone. Finer details are, ummmm, really fine. Yeah.
