Glad you got on 3.0! It's amazing, isn't it (when it works, lol). So, I've played twice in the PU so far and so far apart form having to relearn all the controls wow is this impressive as hell!
Play 1)
So it was Christmas day, I was slightly drunk and wasn't up for Trial-And-Erroring the new Nav system so just flew around Olisar. Frame rate was low and my 350R was squirly but I wasn't sure if this is because the 300 series is knackered, or the new AfterBurner mechanics, or the low frame rate. Reminded me to buy a new Gaming mouse with buttons to alter the DPI - mine died a few months ago and i'd been getting by with a standard mouse - I previously had a R.A.T 5 and have gone in for something for £17 this time as I am now poor.
Came back in and landed at Olisar, getting myself a crime rating for not knowing I had to click the Olisar Traffic Control coms first. "Your ship is about to be stored, please vacate" Shite! *Panics* *Ejects* I eject inside the 350R, bouncing around the interior of the ship in the eject seated position until that animation ended and I found myself clipping through the ship wall. The ship then vanished (stored I assume) and I fell to the floor.
Having had my Lolz I hit "esc" and "Quit Game", the game crashed and I had to CTRL ALT DEL back to desktop.
Play 2)
Today, Boxing Day: Spawn at Olisar so Crime Stat hadn't stuck. Grab my Aurora LN as have heared on the RSI forum that the 300 series doesn't function in atmosphere very well. Wasn't in the mood for testing that today, I was after my first planet fall not my first burn up on entry. QD to Daymar as it looked like it was a straight line.
Come out of QD with the moon in front of me, no other stations in orbit around it. I was further away from it than I would have expected but it was still only a few minutes at 1209m/s to get to the outer atmosphere. Throttled back through the hull-glow zone as didn't want to plough straight into the ground.
The craters and hills started to render, I dove down through the mist and skimmed the surface. Wow. I did a slow circle and saw Dunlow Ridge emergency shelter was only 200km away. Almost nothing at space speeds so hit AB and got to 290m/s... thick atmosphere was slowing me down so got some altitude and a comfortable cruising speed of 707m/s. With 29km to go the shelter was almost directly below me, so flipped the Aurora over and went into a death dive. My scanner picked up a ship below too so again throttled back. Having been shot enough times on Kareah I landed a few hundred meters away from the shelter. Didn't feel like i'd touched down so just powered off. Didn't fall out the sky so assumed I must have been on the ground.
Got out the ship and a player (or NCP?) was running around outside the ship. What had I found? I ran over to their ship only to see it was prone gear-up lifeless on the ground. Out of fuel perhaps? I ran back to my ship and the other player was gone. I saw them at the station so flew over and opened the door and ladder but they were gone. went in the station, no sign of them. Took off and there was a Hornet in the air, perhaps they'd been picked up? I have absolutely no idea what I found but couldn't chat to the guy or even see his User-name which is currently confusing me as I can't even see them on players in Olisar.
Flew back to Olisar and this time got permission to land touched down no problem but had 3x radar guided missile warning. Powered off and the warning went away, and didn't explode so assume there hadn't been any missiles.
That was enough excitement for one day, hit "esc" and "Quit Game", the game crashed and I had to CTRL ALT DEL back to desktop.
So far it's really impressing me, especially the fact I could even play it considering I have a Phenom2 with 8gb ram and a GTX750 (non-ti version). Yeah i'm not going to be winning any combat missions any time soon, but at least I can play it still
So two questions: 1) how do I see other players names? 2) why do NCP's on Olisar all get together and stare at empty benches?
Ah, cool many thanks for the details it's good to know it's not just me.Glad you got on 3.0! It's amazing, isn't it (when it works, lol).
In response to your questions,
1) I don't see other players names either, on their person. I can see their name in a ship, when I target them and get them in view (my targeting system only tells me the type of ship they have, I have to have them in my fov to actually see their name around their target)
2) I'm assuming the NPC's are throwing spaghetti at the wall...and seeing what sticks...
Perhaps in the time between now & then, group watching of where others have sat in the past is a new galactic past time? Sort of like people gathering around to watch a few people play golf today. Only with bench watching, they get to occasionally catch the act of somebody actually sitting in the bench they've been watching to add a whole new person to the list of users of that particular seat. Which to them might be captivating. To a pick pocket, it would definitely be a favorite past time for others as it makes them perfect marks.2) why do NCP's on Olisar all get together and stare at empty benches?
I check the router, the firmware is up to date.... I restarted it.. it is a year old...sagemcom fast5566 3000...The launcher screen you posted initially indicates that it's trying to download the files, but not getting a response from the server. It also sounds like you're having the same problem on 2 PC's. There's nothing special about the download. As long as you have the right launcher, it should be downloading from the correct location.
That it's happening on 2 PC's would indicate to me that it's not a problem with the PC's, but in some other area common to both PC's. I'm thinking router. try this:
Reason for this: The launcher seems to open a large number of connections to the RSI download server. That can be problematic on some, especially older routers built for home use. The large number of connections is so that multiple files can be downloaded at one time. It's just more efficient.
- Ensure your router is using the latest firmware, and update it if required.
- Restart your router, and wait until it's fully restarted. It takes about a minute most cases.
- Delete the folder %appData%\rsilauncher.
- Run the launcher as Administrator (Right click, select Run as Admiinistrator)
- Log in as normal, since the settings folder is deleted, you need your userid and password.
- Before installing the program, go to the Settings tab and change Current Downloads to 5, and the Download Speed limit to say 10 or 5 Mbps, then try again.
- Note that with these settings, it might take quite some time to download 40Gb of data.
