So Me at 1PM as No Man's Sky was downloading....


Me now.....


Ok so what is going on? well for some reason I am unable to even launch the game. I get about a half second of black screen then nothing. I have checked all the posts about it all day long, nothing has worked in the least. I have done everything on the checklist (http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/7/360672137536640057/) The issue I am having is close to
"• SSE 4 – for CPUs that do not support SSE 4, it is causing the game to crash on boot (some of these area technically below min spec, but we don’t want it to crash!)"
But my CPU supports SSE 4. So I am very angry and frustrated right now. if anyone has been having this issue and have been able to fix it please let me know (please do not post anything from the link above as that would not be helpful.) and yes I have turned off and turned it back on.

Just a thought, if you are using Windows 10 the Firewall can and will sometimes cause wierd problems like this.
You could try turning off the Windows Firewall (Control Panel) both Public and Private. Then re-boot for the change to take affect.
If this does not help, remember to set the Firewall back.

well it may be. I don't know. the known issue with CPU's is on I3s I have an I5. So I have no clue. I did email them. I hope they fix it soon.

I just changed my drivers to add beta and hotfix and now downloading an update.... pray this works.

It reminds me of something similar that happened with SC.

My PC is a meager Athlon X2 5200 with 2GB of RAM and a HD7700. So I thought I was doomed to wait for a better time to invest at least a grand on a new rig.

There was a community patch of sorts that involved installing a Windows patch with a new set of instructions for the Core 2 Duo family and fixed a known CTD. I never tried it because my processor was an AMD.

Well, that patch was included in 2.0 or 2.1 (can't recall right now) and magically, my PC could run SC and I could enter my hangar for the first time in three long years.

I'm tired and this sound like ramblings, but you could try to install it. Maybe it works. I'll try to find it and post a link.

Ok so basically two days of trying to fix a another broken on release game. and I have come to the point. "Happy" Games I have 13 mins of "game time" where it crashes on start up (1-5) seconds of game time, I have tried EVERYTHING.... well except human sacrifice. I have spent 8+ hours trying to play No Man's Sky. I have reached this point.

So here it is. I am done. If I am unable to launch the game by 5PM EST on Sunday. I will request a refund from steam and be done.

Its so strange seeing when people have major issues like this. I feel bad cause the game is getting a lot of flak on steam and i feel like a good chunk of it is bandwagon review trolling.

Being some one with a mishmash system of old and new parts and was able to for the most part run the game just fine i feel it sucks for those who can't enjoy the game and then read all the negative comments left by people who have played the game less than an hour. To top it off when its some one who leaves a comment saying how the game is boring and sucks, but only have made 1 review ever.

It sucks that it don't work for you man. I would say refund it and just wait for a more stable patch.

Did you happen to try the Experimental Branch?

Here is how you access it
To access the Experimental branch right-click on the game from the library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab.

Your new branch should be listed in the dropdown menu under "Select the beta you would like to opt into:"

Regrettably did not work. thanks for the try. I will buy the game again if it gets fixed and if I feel like it will stay that way. (right now I have no faith in Happy Games) So we will see. Yet again this has given me more hope for Star Citizen as in its Alpha state it is more playable then an AAA title.

yeah im just saying don't let the negative people on steam set the tone of the quality of the game.

While yeah it sucks that the game has had its hickups i would argue there are other games that are worse about this.
Its just that people that like to complain are always the most vocal online.

I assure you though if you like games like minecraft, starbound, or star citizen. You'll prob enjoy it a lot once you get to play.

I am totally willing to give it another go, when it is working. but I am sick of games being broken at launch. and after putting in 8 hours in two days, I am done. I will let them fix it, and if/when it is fixed I will think about getting it again. right now with not being able to launch the game.... and all the FPS and crashes it is not worth any more of my time until the devs get it put together.

It is working. I don't know if they patched it. before it would not let me set it to admin mode, now it does, and that fixed everything..... so far.

I am on experimental (or was, game updated last night) I found out that the experimental let me set the game to "run as admin" the base game would not,when I tried running it it would tell me I or steam did not have the ability to run as admin. on the experimental I could run as admin, and that worked.

Im at work so as far as i know since last night i dont think the main build got a patch yet. couldnt say about the experimental. Glad you got it working


side note.

I dont know if you had already had it installed, but Windows 10 also pushed the Windows 10 Anniversary. Which is basically kinda like the jump from Win 8 to win 8.1. Dont know if you had that update yet and if it had any affect on your running the game either since its a variable.Would be good to know for others having issues. My RIG updated to it last night when i got home and i worried that it was gonna break NMS for me. Luckily it didnt. It did mess up and reset all of my audio settings in windows which was annoying though.

If on PC play with a controller

Features that dont work with out one

1. Freelook in cockpit
2. Scan for Discoveries in the galaxy map (It says Tab but it doesn't work and the only way is to use a controller)

I just spent the better half of an hour trying to Figure out how to find my starter system
