All of this has given me an excellent idea. Please hold while I put in some actual effort.
Not "don't like my thread campaign" effort? ;)

I'm all seriousness, I'm quite interested to see whatcha come up with.
I'd expect that capturing ships is one form of making money by pirating, the other form is "procuring" cargo. Without the mechanics to disable ships currently I don't know how to go about capturing a ship, but for cargo piracy, you can always just ask nicely and when they don't drop it blow them out of the sky. :)
Right. Cargo. I go so drawn in by Reaper's vision I forgot about the taking cargo post of preachy. I'm all about taking ships, haha.

If you want a piracy division, you must be ready to put the time, effort, and planning in.
I think that is a most reasonable point which is forgotten by most of the wanna-be-a-pirate-scum-org-founders. Its not only about pirating around but also to invest time in crew management and planning.

I would prefer a minorly anarchist approach to TEST Piracy. No real "official" division leadership because fuck you, I'm a pirate, don't tell me what to do.
No, because for what reason do you think there are pirate captains and the strongest-char-wins-mentality? If you want to pirate on your own and without rules you will learn too soon that constantly dying in space is not the way to go ;)

I agree with this 100% TEST piracy should be more like a bar where scurvy scum can swap stories and tactics. Many deals and alliances can be formed as well with a loose club-type structure where everyone basically agrees on a basic set of guidelines (No Blue on Blue, Adhere to a no-kill list of allied orgs and groups, Everyone must have at least six beers on board for each crew member, ect)

Love that quote - and the movies for sure.

'nuff said. I'm not into piracy - I'm outta here ;)

Sent the info to @Montoya so we'll see where it goes.

The idea is there will be a small council the governs the pirates. Like stated before. Basically rule enforcers and op planners. They will also be main line communication between the scoundrels and TEST leadership. It will also give opportunity for leaders to rise.

I think that starting off with combat/pirate group. Once more and more game play mechanics get released we can see where piracy stands and split off the piracy aspect and the two divisions will go their seperate ways. From there it we'll determine of piracy needs to split or can stay with the main.

Combat division can do whatever. Leaders chosen from the council who've proven themselves can be put in place and it can do whatever.

Pirate division will be free for all maintained by the council while all major decisions will need to be finalized by test leadership a.k.a. @Montoya.

Since nothing is certain yet we can't quite plan for the future but, we (as in TEST) can unite and prepare for the game to come.

I joined TEST because of some random invite and said "might as well see what it's about, not like I have a game to play." Met a lot of great people along the way and have even played a game or two with some of them. So, I would like to see this massive org succeed all the while having a lot of fun.

Lastly, true pirates can pirate even when pirating may seem impossible. We may not know yet how to disable a ship (yet) but who's to say we can't figure it out or jack some groups ship as they land. As long as combat mechanic is in place the being a pirate is possible. Even if it's just to screw with ADI.

Sweet. I'm totally on board. I think we should have a few of the piracy/privateer mainstays on board as well. I'm looking at @AntiSqueaker, @Shadow Reaper, @Jim "Black Bones" Bundy, @DcTrojan72 to name a few.
One more thing. YAAAAAAAAARRRR!!!!!!!!!

Note: I haven't done much and the work has already been too much.
Drink a beer. or 10.
Lol it's going well. Adding Caterpillars to many fleets.
Insidious you are. Providing ships to TESTies for a discounted rate. ;)

Also, I love you. Don't ever change. Ha.

Why not have a breakdown of different combat jobs, rather than just one big "combat/piracy" division? Bounty Hunters, Escort Pilots, Pirates/Privateers, etc etc.

Bounty Hunting and Escort Pilots really don't have a ton of overlap beyond shooting stuff sometimes. Bounty Hunters are offensive inclined, whereas escorts are usually defensive by the nature of escorting someone. (In fact I would wager bounty hunters have more in common with piracy...track down and disable targets vs shooting everyone to death)

And I wouldn't really want to "tarnish" any other squads record or reputation with our piracy missions, ya know?

With that being said, I'm planning to be out in lawless space, or Nul-sec, or 0.0 or whatever you wanna call it. So i'll be doing a little bit of everything. Piracy, Escort missions for TESTies, some semi-morally questionable bounties that might end up being assassination contracts, smuggling, "high risk salvaging", etc etc.

Am I alone in this? Because it might be worth considering having a general "outlaw" division umbrella over a pure piracy oriented one, to cover all our bases of less than legal jobs. Smugglers might tank the reputation of the legitimate logistics/hauling division, black market bounties might do the same for Bounty Hunters, and so forth. Might as well have all our rotten eggs in one basket!

The amoral division. I like it.

Yup. I'll be there. Policed space is boring. Frontier space, lawless space, that's where it's at. For me anyways. Or in the border space with the Vanduul. That could be interesting.
Privateering, smuggling, salvage, bounties, piracy...
You know, good honest work.

That can be something implemented further down the road. Combat half and it's leadership can do whatev's. Since not very many people will stick to just one part of TEST I'm not sure the need for a bunch of subdivisions. Leadership would act as more of a middle man/coordinator or whatever else of their main role bit all in all they should be free to do whatever.

As for piracy it should be more of a free for all potluck with the council really only making sure that all piracy isn't something that's going to severely impact the rest of TEST, with a side dose of black ops depending on the situation.

As for combining combat and piracy, my thought is basically just to get something started soon(tm). Once game reaches point where piracy can really stand apart then it can split off.
