I've been aurauraless for a while thought I'd pick one up to try in 2.6 see what they've done with the hull and shields.

Hey it's a great starter ship - you can fit a big store box to haul some cargo (soon), it's got 2 x S2 2 x S1 guns all nice and close(ish) together and its got a size 4 (?!!!) missile launcher so you can either mini torpedo with a S4 missile (hahaha bye bye connie) or you can do what I do and run 2 x S3 missiles only the bigger ships can survive a hit and even then they can be in trouble from it. or if fighting smaller ships you can fit 4 x S2 missiles which are great for damaging small-medium fighters etc.

I am impressed! I got to Wave10 on vandul swarm without my favourite S3 missiles, gonna try again with my s3s and see if I can make wave 15.

Compared to the avenger which has had its manoeuvrability nerfed - it's competitive now especially when you consider you can put whatever guns and missiles, you want on the aurora whereas the avenger is very inflexible with the unmovable tigershreik and only a pair of s2 missiles.

50 auroras with 50 size 4 missiles may be a thing. I think we should try it.

If anyone else has used the size four on an LN, did you also have to get within 300 meters to get a lock? I only used it once, and only got to fire off one missile. 300 meters is almost too close to get a lock when the Vanduul are buzzing around you in an LN.
It depends on the missile and the target, some ships are easier to lock and hit with certain missile types.

If a ship has a high heat output then it's easier to lock with IR (heatseeker) missiles, this directly relates to the distance you can get a lock from. You might see that it's 300m when they are running cool, but if they use fire their weapons or use boost/AB then the range you can lock from will increase.

I did some testing with the 3 size 3 variants and the IR missiles fluctuated the most, some ships you needed to be right on top of, EM and CS missiles were much more reliable at longer ranges.

I do really like that the Aurora has such a chunky missile launcher, it might not have the capacity for a longer dogfight, but size 3/4 missiles are enough to seriously damage most ships. It's nice to know that new players in their starter ship will still be a potential threat to people in their more expensive ships. Hopefully the threat of losing your hornet to a missile will be enough to stop people trying to troll new players still getting into the game.

Question: the current starter Aurora is the MR. I always thought that this makes sense because she has a small cargo hold as well as carry some weapons. So, if you are telling that die LN is your favorite Aurora: where are the advantages against an MR?

Yeh it's the S4 missiles, they are pooo poo.They do do a lot of damage (at least 50% more than S3)

Trust me the best mount for this aurora is a 423 with 2 x FSKI Thunderbolt 3 missiles. They hit every time. BOOM BOOM
