Haha, y'all are the best. Great, very well thought out responses from my very favourite people. Haha

Ultimately I only ever wanted to have one large ship. I have a Carrack and a Cat at the moment.

Without spending a dime, at the moment I can turn my Doom Turtle into a BMM. I can also CCU between all the big ships at the moment.
I do love the Reclaimer, and the BMM is enticing. I, unfortunately, do not have any BMM to Carrack or Reclaimer (or any other $350 ship) upgrades. This means that even if I do upgrade to a BMM, I have no way of CCUing over to any of the other 350 ships. This may end up being a benefit, as it may prevent me from owning 3 large ships at relatively no expense.

I also have the ability to turn my limited addition pirate Cat into a Carrack/Reclaimer/Genesis/Prowler etc etc etc. But do I want to dispose of my Cat? She *may* end up being useful.

Haha, I'm rambling, aren't I?

I could just turn the damn Carrack into a Prowler, keep the Cat, and be done with it. Or vice versa. Or keep a Reclaimer. Prowler and Reclaimer. That would limit me to one large ship, and then I'd have a prowler for pirating the shit outta stuff and things.

If you are TRUELY worried about getting locked in on a ship with the $0 CCUs going away, then lock in the CCU on the ship that you think will be worth the most credits in the in-game market. That way you can sell it (by IT, i mean the BMM) and buy whatever the hell you want as things go live. I think that's what Im going to end up doing, anyways.

What I'm seeing with these posts is that Carrack lovers just wanna boldly go, while Reclaimer lovers wanna munch on the economy right out the gates.

I want funds, but trust me I've thought about CCU'ing my Cat to a Carrack a few times and time will tell, but I REALLY like the concept of the Cat with its modules. If possible the Cat will be my exploration vessel plus be able to carry an average amount of cargo.

And if you really wanna explore, just use any ship you want. The Cutlass Black will most likely turn into my primary "just fucking around" vessel.

Another ship thread! Because we all have a problem.

With the recent news that all our 0 dollar CCUs will be disappearing over the next while, I find that my plan to switch from Reclaimer to Carrack - in an effort to decide what $350 ship I want at launch - is pretty much kaput. So I need to decide now which ship I will have at launch. Which sucks. Because I hate decisions.

Also, what do I do with all these other CCUs that are now worth money? Like all these Redeemer to BMM CCUs? Any of you beautiful sexy TESTies need ships before these CCUs are gone forever?

Help me TEST, you're my only hope!

Let the shitposting begin.
You can borrow my Carrack on occasion.....so I would say Reclaimer.

Hehe. My packages . . .
These ships are expendable:
-The Terrapin has a CCU to Redeemer, which I love, but I can also buy at any time. The Redeemer can then be CCU'd to a BMM as I have those CCU's. I loved the Doom Turtle to start. But I really love the Redeemer.
-The Bucky I may or may not keep. I haven't yet had a chance to play with her, see if I love her. I have a CCU to the Hornet that I got for 15, but is now worth 40. So that's a bonus.

These ships stay (so far):
-The Hurricane will become a Banu Defender. I do like me a long distance fighter, and I already have the CCU. I just left it a Hurricane as I assume that it will be playable first.
-The DF's are for planetary exploration. I do love space bikes.
-The Harbinger is my jack of all trades fighter. I have all the BUKs. I do love her. She will stay.
-Cutty Blue. My solo all-purpose ship.

These ships I'm waffling on:
-My Carrack. I love her. Have since the beginning of time. But that Reclaimer looks so damn enticing....
-My Caterpillar. I LOVE the versatility . . .if it happens. So far the ship has underwhelmed. I was really hoping for a salvage package, but they have not released any fucking info on what we can honestly expect. And not knowing makes it hard to commit at this time, which is exactly what they're asking us to do. It IS a Pirate edition, so I may not do anything with her.

Anyways, that's that.
Oh, for your assay, I have in buyback:
Caterpillar and Dragonfly Combo Pack
Digital Freelancer LTI Package. (This will be the base for any future purchases)
Aquila to Cat
Carrack to Genesis (this ship entices me also)
Genesis to Prowler (So does THIS one. WTF is wrong with me)
Carrack to Prowler
Carrack to Genesis
Caterpillar to Genesis
Gemini to Carrack

Also a ton of other LTI ships

This is what I have in mind. Maybe this will generate some conversation, suggestions and or constructive criticism.

Avenger starter package to grind missions until I can fuel Starfarer and Genesis and hire two NPC's
Starfarer and Genesis to generate credits to buy everything else in game other then a Polaris.
And, of course, the Polaris would need more crew. Or auto turrets.

If I put a Terrapin in my Polaris... I'm exploring.
Put a prospector "maybe two?" in the Polaris and I'm mining in unfriendly territory. I feel that's were the best ore " or Gems?" will be.
Fill the Polaris cargo bay and Avenger " in hanger" with High Value cargo and or contraband and I'm trading in unfriendly space for The Big Bucks.
Racer in the Bay... I'm off to the races.
Escorting, Interdiction, Pirating and most everything else...... just add appropriate ship to the Polaris hanger and go.

Except Salvaging at this point....

So what should we own to make this happen?

Avenger
Starfarer or Genesis
Polaris

And a Reclaimer to join your Polaris and Star G as a triple team effort of mayhem and destruction .. LOL

Earn lots of credits and buy everything else in game.

Just some thoughts... please add too and adjust if you like.

Fuck I wish I'd bought a Polaris. Haha.

I like your thoughts. I'd extrapolate, but I'm drunk, tired, and my 1 Year old just woke up. So I'm out for the evening. Cheers.

Carrack = exploration
Caterpillar = modularity

exploration + modularity = Endeavor.

And if you really wanna explore, just use any ship you want.
Keep in mind there will be at least three different kinds of sensors, maybe more, and at least three different sizes with very different ranges. It will probably take more than a dozen Reliants to replace a single Carrack, and most craft can't mount the sensors necessary to exploration at all.

Just buy a bunch of Cutlasses a couple of Dragonflies and a Buccaneer to go with that Caterpillar and call it done.

The only thing I'm missing is the Cat and Herald and I'll have all the Drake ships....

I have a problem, don't I? I need help.

Do you plan to go out exploring with a group of friends of which i am not one of them? Remember if you're exploring with me I have my Carrack. So anything i say between them will be skewed toward Carrack.

Look not only for what you want... (which we all know is everything right?) but look for what you need. This is how I have balanced my ships.

I have my money making ship. My constant source of income that will be reliable with or without any help.
Prospector

I have my exploration ships. One I can do alone or with 1 friend and one I can bring a whole crew of friends. These are my fun ships. Focusing on my main passion for the game.
Terrapin
Carrack

I have my utility craft. Small ship to get where I need to go in short hauls and can be taken with me wherever I go with certain ships.
Dragonfly
(also have Pisces and rover from Carrack in this category)

Then I have my pvp ship. One I can take out alone or with a friend that stock is really usefull to me but also can fit in with fleets.
Hurricane (once they bring in slave turrets then can fly this solo and stock it packs a major punch. Currently my favorite ship for small 1-2man fighters right in front of the hornet models. Both of which are going to be readily available in PU so it matters not really which one I have now which is why I chose my favorite in this case)

So best advice to choose I can tell you is do the same. Another one is work with your friends to get ships you all want to be able to use but can't afford to buy them all individually. Most of my RL friends who are gonna play can only afford small starter ships or 1 man craft so my Carrack is the multi-crew ship for all of us to take out when we get on together to explore or have fun and my buddies Retaliator is the multi-crew ship for when we want to pvp together in one ship.

Okay, you've got to weigh up this decision based on the only thing you know for sure is not going to change in Alpha: The ships names.

The Anvil Carrot is named after an orange vegetable and the Aegis Proclaimers is named after a Scottish soft rock band.

So what do you prefer, being able to see in the dark or humming that walking 500 miles song?

The Carrot or The Proclaimers. Choose your fate.
