If you had your druthers and could design one ship to live out of, what would it be like? Post your delusions. . .er, I mean thoughts here.

What I wish I had would be sized between the Prowler and Polaris: the Aegis "Black-Heart" class stealth assault transport. It is patterned after the shape of the Eclipse including the folding wings and includes an S2 sensor suite and full EM warfare capabilities including 6 EMP mines and 6 stealth sensor probes deployed through tractor beam. It is a heavy ship equipping double armor like the Terrapin, extended range fuel tanks, and sits 15 marines. The bridge is similar to the MISC Reliant's ultra-high visibility bubble, seating 2 and room to stand between the seats, but does not include the variable geometry of the Reliant. The troop seating is modular and can be individually swapped out for 4 cargo units per person, or up to 60 extra cargo space to create a stealth transport. Like the Prowler it has a high top speed, but is slow to accelerate and maneuver. With the S3 reactor shut down it has no shield capabilities but is very stealthy. With twice the installed shields as the Vanguard spread out over much larger size the shields are minimal, but recharge very quickly. With only the S1 reactor running it does not generate sufficient power to fire energy weapons.

I think CIG could get $625 for a ship like this despite it is less than half the ship you get with a Polaris.

Ideally, as a home ship and not a primary money-maker: Gotta go with something like a sneakily militarized 890 Jump. All softie on the outside, but with extensive hidden weaponry and a sturdy shield. It would have a fully shielded cargo bay for smuggling and extensive scanners (akin to the herald) that could scoop data to aid in bounty hunting. It would also have a landable hangar just large enough for 2 hornet escorts.

...I basically described the Merchantman, didn't I?

If they had a ship with a huge cargo ship with a large single internal cargo bay with at least 1 door the size of the side of the bay. I could see Drake making a flying box like that to compete with MISC's Hull series for bulk cargo transport. The upshot is it's utility vs the hull series. Since it's an huge single internal bay, you could transport huge items and it would be just as modular as the Hull since you can pack containers in it. It would fit with the Drake style since it's a utilitarian simple and cheap design that could easily be used as a mini carrier/loot ship by pirates. On the flip side bounty hunters or mercenaries could use it as a mobile home carrying a ship or two and lots of room for supplies and prisoners.

I don't think the BMM has a hangar, but the 890J is expected to be a militarily capable ship. I have always been impressed they planned more weapons in from the start than a Carrack.

Sounds like the Endeavor might work for you.

Yeah, this is something I'm REALLY hoping for. Ben at one point said something along the lines of being able to dock at least one defender. We shall see, because that would make a lot of sense. With CIG dialing back the scope of ship-to-ship docking; The Merchant nature of the ship may demand a way for passing traders to land and check the BMM's wares. One can only hope, I suppose

Given the size of the hangar on the Carrack and Polaris, I would not expect to fit a pair of hornets in anything smaller than an Idris.

Of course an Idris would make a cool trade platform, especially if it can land, and we will be selling only slightly used Idris P at reasonable prices.

One can dream, but you're probably right. Might have to resort to shoehorning as many merlins inside a BMM as possible. For science.

any ship with a bunk will allow you to log off in space without landing somewhere

as a minimalist I say, what more do I need than my Aurora?

drinking virtual beer, shooting virtual pool, and ogling virtual strippers is not how I'm gonna spend my time in-game

blowing shit up and extracting tears is more my style

Psh, easy!
Caterpillar.
Front Module - biker garage
Module 1 - workshop
Module 2 - bar/pool tables
Module 3 - disco dance floor/stripper pole
Module 4 - kitchen
Command Module - sleeping quarters
Think bigger sir. Think a table lined with coke going through all 4 modules of the Caterpillar.

But you got the sleeping quarters part right.

Drake Corsair:

Officially a "long range Search and Rescue organizational platform", the Corsair is ostensibly a HQ for larger S&R/Militia missions. Featuring an exposed flight deck capable of launching, refueling, and rearming a multitude of fighters (and tailor made for the new and improved 2947 Cutlass and Buccaneer) the Corsair has quickly made a name for itself as a pirate mothership.

With large cargo holds able to hold plenty of.....Search and Rescue medical supplies.....the Corsair can quickly take patients off of a Cutlass, and store them safely and securely away. The Cutlass is then able to be topped off on any missing medical supplies it may be missing, or patch jobs applied to any necessary escort fighters. For added utility, there is internal fighter storage capable of fitting 2 Cutlasses or 4 Buccaneers in addition to an underbelly berth docking port specifically designed to quickly off-load a Caterpillar-class transport.

The Corsair, while 100% officially a S&R platform has quickly become a favorite of outlaws from Spider, who use the platform in unintended ways, such as a long-range "pocket carrier" to refuel, rearm, and resupply fighters while simultaneously dropping off cargo. Affectionately called the "Brick", the Corsair can often be found in low-power mode in an asteroid field, Cutlasses and Buccaneers ferrying cargo from nearby disabled merchant vessels.

For all it's upsides, the Corsair is not a dedicated combat ship, as it's modest price reflects. While well armored, speed and agility is not exactly thrilling. The armament is limited to a few anti-fighter turrets, as the primary weapon of the Corsair is the fighting craft that can be tucked away in its belly.

Length: 200m
Beam: 75m
Height: 50m
Null-cargo mass: 150,000kg

Cargo capacity: 2000. (4000 if all fighter berths are converted to secondary cargo bays)

Max crew: 7 (Pilot, Co-pilot, Engineer, 4 Turret gunners), has bunks for 30 total (carried fighter crew + misc)

Max Powerplant Size: 2x S5

Factory Powerplant: 2x S4

Max Engine: 4x S5

Maneuvering Thrusters: 22 S2

Max Shield: 6xS3

Fixed weapons: N/A

Gimbaled Weapons: 2xS2 (chin mount)

Turreted weapons: 4 turrets each with twin S3 hardpoints

Class 9/Anti-Missile System/Whatever they are categorized as now: 2 AMS systems

Basically the flight deck runs 80% of the ships hull, and is flanked by turrets to fend off fighters. The cargo hold and fighter berthing areas are beneath the flight deck, reached by elevators near the cockpit. On the rear is a "nub" where a Caterpillar can link up her front module and quickly offload cargo.

I've wanted this ship for a long time: something with great utility for all sorts of shenanigans, but not a combat ship by any means. A true "pocket carrier" in the fact that it can support a squadron of fighters by refueling + rearming, and light repairs but can only actually carry a limited number of fighters. The utility is countered by poor speed and handling and lack of combat power.

A realistic price would be about 500-600 since Drake makes cost-effective ships and the whole thing is basically a bastardized cargo ship with a flight deck strapped on top, but CIG would comfortably charge 1000 USD for it.

I'd have to go with some kind of R&R refit Endeavor - Landing bay, Storage pod and Service pod. Park it out in deep space and run it low power, or leave it near a station in inhabited space and offer a repair service out of it while you're not home.
