So we all have ships. Some of us have several ships which we bought in moments of "SHINY!". What are your ships and why did you get them? Some personal reason perhaps or just because they look cool? Maybe you see yourself in some sort of role besides Crash TEST Aurora Pilot #1837(nothing shameful about this). Tell us your reasons and at the end put down your future purchase plans for other ships. I'll start.

-sidenote: My computer currently can't even run the Hangar of Star Citizen lol but I hope to fix that soonish because I've spent over 1.5K on the game lol.

Super Hornet - Started out as a normal Hornet and then grey marketed an upgrade to the Super version. Bought the original because it honestly looked cool. Its not my first purchase, that was the Constellation. Super Hornet upgrade came into play later seeing a good deal on Reddit and at the time I figured a friend who I'd been trying to get to join SC and I could co-pilot it on missions etc. Its still the plan but I like the extra firepower it can carry and I look forward to flying it.

315P - Originally bought because I fancy myself as an explorer. I've always liked exploring levels in games after I've killed everything and occasionally am surprised by what I find. Example: Halo 1, found several hidden caches of weapons and grenades I never knew existed on the first several runs through. So I like exploring. This ship will probably be melted for other future ships and I may pickup the Carrack of Dur to replace it. Friends are more fun that solo after all.

Constellation Phoenix - So bought the original Constellation way back when I first started pledging and thought it would be a good general purpose ship for whatever. That has changed. I'll admit I got the Phoenix upgrade because of the stats at the time being horribly wrong and thats ok because of customization possibilities. I'm going to keep the ship because I do see a good use for it in transporting wayward TEST pilots back to the meatgrinder of hostile space and I want them to travel in style*.

*airlock may open at any time to dump all freeloaders out into space/atmosphere.

Freelancer MIS - Bought this when the variant sale went live for the Lancer because it was limited edition and Macross Missile Spam is something I think will be enjoyable. I may melt it down later if something better comes up but missile spam appeals to me. Also green is cool.

Xi'An Scout Ship - Bought this when the concept sale went live for the simple reason of 'cool alien ship that maneuvers fast'. And then I bought another one that was used in our Xi'an scout giveaway to give something back to TEST for taking my poor self in. I invite Montoya to sit shotgun in it while we go crash one together. The fact that it retroactively got LTI is also a bonus and will be one ship I never reclaim.

Gladius - What can I say? I bought it because it was cheap and looked good. The fact it now has LTI attached to it doesn't hurt one bit. I plan to play this quite a bit and trick it out for fleet actions. Its just a good little ship imo.

Aurora LN - Because everyone else in this org has one. And it has the color Yellow.

Reclaimer - When this bad boy first went up I immediately got it. I did a fair bit of salvaging back in Eve Online and the random rewards that gave were fun. With a much more in depth Salvaging mechanic in SC I imagine I'll enjoy it even more. The Reclaimer also has LTI attached which makes me smile. The Reclaimer and the other Wave 3 ships coming out will mark a shift in my fleet toward more specialized roles away from combat ships though you could make the argument I only have 4 combat ships atm anyway. I say nuts yo you because you are right but I see myself more of an explorer/miner/salvager than a commander leading GLORIOUS TEST FLEET TO VICTORY.

Future Fleet(depending on cost)!

Orion - I liked Mining and industry in Eve Online. While I suspect it won't get as nuts and bolts here as it was in Eve I think the mining mechanics will be much more in depth and to me mining is a great way to unwind. Will definitely be getting one if its not uber expensive like an 890 JUMP.

Hull C - I do want a big cargo hauler to transport my crap around from one place to another and to loot fellow TEST members of their unwanted goods.

Carrack - Again on my list because of exploration and its dedicated systems.

Herald - Getting one because of lost cost and because Inforunning may be a real profession to spec in.

Crucible Repair Ship - Hand in hand with the Reclaimer this is my butter to the Reclaimer bread. Again specialized ship for something I find quite interesting. The Begal Carrier of TEST must be recovered somehow so we can fly it into the sun for epic tears. I also plan to extort a lot of money from Montoya when I see his damaged ship in space and need of a good kicking to get functional again.

Tl;dr - Sunder makes a wall of text and puts this in the wrong place so people have to have read the wall first.

REDACTED overpriced capital ship- Personal flying brothel.

I think Im pretty much satisfied starting off with these ships:

- 890 Jump
- Pheonix
- Xian Scout*
- Aurora LN

I have a Reclaimer which I will putting towards the org hangar and the Pheonix might be sold to make up for the cost of the Reclaimer.

Even with these ships, I think I will still limit myself to at least trying to play through the beginning of the game with an Aurora and work my way up. The problem is we would have spent so much time in the beta that I do not think any of us would want to go back to an Aurora at that point.

I like the idea of the Herald, Im sure it will be very shiny, but I think Im done buying ships (which is what I say every month).

*Xian Scout ship was originally melted for the Pheonix, but some very nice Concierge service allowed me backtrack on somethings and get it back.

I've got a 325a, bought it cause it looked awesome, and I wanted the versatility over the hornet (bit more cargo etc)

in the future
*Aurora* ... i mean, I'm in test...
*Constellation Taurus* For cargo hauling to make a bit of money in the PU
*Freelancer DUR* Its kinda between this and the connie, I think they are going to have to increase the cargo cap of the freelancer
*M50* Cause fast

aurora mr: cause i can just buy one starter ship and feel satisfied, enjoy alpha, beta, and not boost myself out of a fun leveling experience in the PU.

carerpillar: melted the connie i couldn't live without and even had a super hornet for a bit but i got the caterpillar instead. figured the possibility it could be used as a "healing ship" (rumor at the time) and that would make it a very valuable ship.

starfarer: figured as long as i've already lost my mind i might as well run with it. thought i could always gray market it.

m50: for fucks sakes...

xi'an scout: well, as long as i'm single...

cutlass blue: it's blue!

I have 3, and it'll probably stay that way until launch. I have a Cutlass for hauling and gunship duties, an Avenger for light hauling and mainline combat support, and a Gladius for light combat duties.

I may swap the cutlass out for a Redeemer, as I'm an unabashed Aegis fan and it'd be nice to not only have an actual gunship but an all-Aegis hangar.

first: 300i. melted it the next day for Avenger, because Sexiness
I then bought myself a Hornet F7C package, but I traded it in with an Original Backer for the same package + Ghost Upgrade (since it was the same price for him) again, because Sexiness of the BLACK
a few weeks later was the big "FINAL LTI SALE!" and bought meself a 350R because Racing (I'm big on racing, not very good, but love it still) but not M50 yet, because I could get more use out of a 350R and it's got more comfort features.
but later, M50... same reason, and sexiness with the new PBR and model when it was re-done

what I'm waiting on now is a Retaliator, because Sexiness (man Aegis makes some sexy ships!) also want the Gladiator + Gladius, but I'll save up for Retaliator, and get those in-game is what I'm thinking.

You know, we both seem to have a similar problem! :D

10x AMD Mustangs- I got my hands on 78 of them. Why not?
Holy shit! I know you drop a lot of hilarious donations in Captain_Richard's Twitch, but damn! Seriously? Are they in the form of redeemable codes or are they all transferable packages. I ask because I have one or two friends I might want to gift accounts/starter packages for their upcoming birthdays. I'd need to pre-make their accounts if they could only be giftable once. I know I should be getting them Aurora packages instead?

Conni Taurus- Biggest cargo craft package that was out. The physical items got me there.
The physical items in the game package? It's going to be one hell of a hauler. I bet very efficient at making credits, with minimal operating crew required.

Avenger- Bought for 70% value, going to melt but its pretty cool for its size.
I'd at least hang on until variants are out or you get a chance to try it out in Arena Commander unless you desperately need the money for a concept ship limited sale.

10x Heralds for CCUs and to keep a few.
For some unfounded reason I have the suspicious feeling the Herald will be more expensive than its size would denote (possibly because of expensive components or function) and it will be the price of a medium-sized ship to avoid an outcry from existing backers about an easy barrier to LTI. I'm hoping they'll be $100 or less, and I think they'll make so much more money if they reasonably price them just due to sheer volume.

My Hangar:
Constellation Phoenix LTI - Constellation was my original Pledge ship. I'm still awaiting more detailed clarification on the Aquilla vs. the Phoenix, but I have a Phoenix Upgrade ready. VIP Escort missions sound like a unique and fun mechanic, and I've been brainstorming a fitting name for it. [Name decided in a later thread]

Aegis Gladius LTI - It looked awesome, I bought it impulsively. No regrets.

Origin M50 - Gotta go fast!

Aegis Reclaimer LTI - Concept art looked amazing. Detailed description of the parts and the salvaging mechanic really sold me. Plus it's Aegis. I will see what the HullC and the Orion have to offer, but I'm holding on the the Space Garbage Truck for now. (Not really thinking about a Carrack because I think we'll have a lot of those in TEST and I can always find a place on one, given my science background ;P)

Edited 11/29/2014:

2x Drake Herald - One to keep, one to CCU to Hornet so I can apply a Super Hornet upgrade.

MISC Starfarer - Something about this ship, man. Just had to have it! Whether it'll be used for collecting fuel, transporting fuel to my ships/TEST fleet ops, I feel it's a very undervalued ship, and I picked one up during the 2014 Anniversary sale!

Banu Merchantman - Another ship from the 2014 Anniversary sale! I really like the design and I hope it'll be a fun ship to do trading and transporting in! Also hopefully bring in some UEC to bankroll the other ships!

Super Hornet and Cutlass Black - I loved flying as a pilot or gunner in the choppers in Battlefield 2/3 and want to capture that super fun again. I saw that these are two seaters and had to have them.

Reclaimer - This ship looks like a game in and of itself. I feel I could get immersed in the salvage operations and enjoy the anticipation on what I may find.

Hornet Tracker - I bought into the deep scanning idea. Sounds interesting.

315P - When I just want to explore economically and not worry about overhead, this is the best single seat ship I can think of. It has a jump drive, and tractor beam and a hell of a cockpit view. I think this ship has the best bang for the buck and is full featured.

890 Jump - This was an unplanned impulse buy. I saw the photos of the interior and thought "I can be Captain god damned Kirk in this thing!" This is the closest I'll get to owning the star ship Enterprise in a live persistent universe. I melted a couple ships and paid the difference. I just had to have it, and it had to be LTI.

Andromeda (with unapplied Pheonix upgrade) - If I can have chicks with bikinis in the hot tub, I'll apply the upgrade. :) I have many digital girlfriends. I mean hell, look at Lara Croft in Tomb Raider 2013. Who wouldn't like to see her in a bikini... real chick or not?

Connie was my first. (I do enjoy the sound of that out of context.). I got it because it represents one of two big experiences I've always wanted - captaining a ship with a small crew of friends.

The other experience I've always dreamed of was space marine boarding action. So I got a cutlass.

Lastly, on an impulse I bought a super hornet upgrade that I saw floating around on reddit because I was having so much fun flying them in ac and just thought they looked cool. Only realized later that it meant I could also use the canard turret - that's been fun.

I'm now torn about upgrading to an aquila. I also have an unapplied blue upgrade for the cutlass that I'm still on the fence about.

Unsure about future purchases because I think I've spent enough, but the Retaliator does make my nipples tingle.

Hornet F7C-S - This started as a 300i during the inital crowd funding. I later upgraded the package to a 325a, then later melted it and grabbed a Hornet F7C-S.

Retaliator - I wanted something to use for bombing enemy capitol ships. I might also have had some ideas of using it for running cargo past enemy blockades due to being heavier armed and armored than comparable cargo ships at the time.

M50 - I wanted something small and fast to use for courier missions, as a light fighter and racing. Bought during the end of LTI sale. I'm leaning towards trading this for a Herald in the sale later this week. I did not particularly like the news that the M50 might not be able to mount a jump drive.

Khartu-Al - Bought this a few months ago when the new concept sale came up. I love how this ship looks and will likely supplant my M50 as a light fighter.

890 JUMP - I have poor impulse control. I'd like to say I had plans before buying this but honestly, I saw the concept art and fell in love with it. Grabbed one out of the first batch. I'll probably use it for smuggling space-coke.

I love your choice of profile picture. In fact, CIG should name a new ship after Russia's dictator: the homoeroticputinator. You drive it shirtless, its 8-track player only plays Boney M, its guns automatically shoot gay people (before they "infect" others), it drops not-so-smart bombs that remove all humour, awareness for basic human rights, and critical thinking faculties, including satire, and its payload delivers Russian zombie soldiers (dressed in red evening gowns to cleverly conceal their true identity) to invade democratic worlds.

Well as it stands right now I have and I'm going to keep.
LN- my NFG ship
Connie - Old RADM package
Reclaimer - Concept blew me away that thing is huge
890 - Complete Impulse buy. But I'm going to keep it for sure after I was reading what ben posted! 2 yes two 85 x's and you can cram a rover in the cargo loading elevator .

I have a bunch of melt ships just waiting for the future fleet once they go on sale. I knew I was gonna spend the money on the Orion and Hull-C so I picked up a few just to see them in my hangar.

Future Fleet
Gonna buy a herald for sure maybe 2 just in case :)
Hull-C and Orion and thats all I will need.

Hanger x2 sale I say I'm only going to buy the herald this weekend but.......... we will see how that works out I really dont want to hit Grand ADM. Damn Shinies and Ballast Point don't mix lol

Aurora LN- because, well, TEST ^^

Cutlass Blue- Started out with 315p went for DUR but in the process i realized there will be a lot of people going exploration so since i can't spend lots of money on ships i thought i'm just gonna go something i can already afford maybe pay a little more so i ended up with cutlass and I'm considering bounty hunting as my future profession until i can buy the Orion ^^

started with a 300i, upgraded to 350R (bigger number = better, right?), realized after a month it is a racing ship. tried racing, was meh, crosschassis upgraded into hornet LTI.

now i am waiting for superhornet sale again. i hope i can upgrade it.

my attitude is i safe the money for pc hardware parts until beta launches (including an oculus rift) and fight my way up.

but i recently seen the retaliator in engine and now i am HNGGGGG!
