Hey everyone getting excited for 3.0

background:
I am thinking of doing upgrade/new computer guts build, not because of SC but because my core system is old.
In doing this I am thinking of replacing my worn Old Saitek X45 hotas. I tried the keyboard, but it does not feel as immersive - fun - as a stick does.

Question:
I am looking at the getting a Thrustmaster T.1600M hotas, but how important do you find rudder pedals?
I am watching my money here and do not wish to spend on something that is not helpful and than do not need.
I am not really looking at doing many other sims.

Thanks you input.

Heres what I do that is a little odd:

Rudder Pedals: Bound to roll (left/right)
Throttle for throttling
Mouse with a shit ton of buttons for....mousing. (steering)

I freakin love the setup. I feel VERY in control when I fly

I fly dual Thrustmaster T 16000 M joysticks. I don't have peddles so therefor can not compare, but.. I have great control over my ships.
There are many YouTube videos on Dual Joystick setups.. check them out.

I have a setup almost exactly like you are asking about.
Currently I'm using a X52 and Thrustmaster T-Flight rudder pedals. I have the pedals setup for yaw, but used to them that due to other flight sims.
It took a bit to get used to having them, what I did was play a few rounds of practice racing to get adjusted how the ship acts and how the pedals do.

I have the T.16000m FCS HOTAS. However, I just recently (as of yesterday) switched to dual sticks. Drove down to MicroCenter to pick up a keyboard and figured "eh, fuck it", and grabbed another T.16000m. After a few hours of play yesterday, I will not be going back to HOTAS. As @marcsand2 mentioned, the T.16000's have a twist axis, so you don't need pedals (I've got strafe up/down on the left and roll on the right), but I'm sure they feel cool . I'm probably going to get some eventually.

You can actually pick up dual sticks cheaper than the HOTAS (at least with MicroCenter's warranty). So it my be best to go that route first, if it at all interests you. Then, go to the HOTAS if you don't like it (doubtful). As @StdDev mentioned, there are quite a lot of YT vids on the subject. Noobifier 1337 has a series that briefly overviews various player configs (basic axes) with dual stick setups.

** just wanted to include this video from Trip Rodriguez for setting up dual sticks with T.A.R.G.E.T for if you decide to go this route.

I use pedals since I use mouse most of the time. I also hate the twist action, so I have dual sticks that don't twist.

I have dual T.16000m fcs sticks and T.Flight rudder pedals. I go back and forth on my pedals. Sometimes they're useful, sometimes they just feel like a hassle. I feel like I'd need them if I had a HOTAS setup, though.

Twist is more precise than rudder pedals. It takes a lot time and practice to get the same precision with your feet. I have flown years with force feedback and twist, but no twist makes your controls more precise. Right now I use roll / rudder pedals to get my ship perfectly aligned with the flight direction of my target, leading the target slightly with my guns.

Taking a drill to my wrists and using twist has about the same feeling for me. I stand by my pedals... or sit by them...
