So I finally got around to watching the Anvil ATV. According to them, the Carrack is now approximately 30m longer. That puts it in the range of the Polaris (around 153m compared to the 155m of the polaris). It also is supposed to have some customization. You will be able to change the specialization from purely exploration, to cargo, to who knows what. It sounds like they are going modular. Maybe not to the extent of the Cat, but still. I like it.

So not only is it going to be bigger, and more adaptable, but it's also supposed to be one of the coolest ships they've worked on to date. According to them, they learned a lot about building big ships from the Idris and Starfarer. They were able to start this ship off right. I was already sold on the concept (hence the reason why I already own one. Now, I am even more excited to see what they do with it. They also confirmed a "escape" or snub ship along with the rover.

The Carrack starts at around the 28 min mark and the +30m comment is at around the 32m mark.

View: https://youtu.be/j-ZpTxWbi4k?t=28m00s

It's nice to see ships really heading in the right direction. Honestly, with what they are doing here, I am particularly looking forward to my BMM...

Edit: They also mentioned at the 33m mark "You can spend on this ship months". Maybe I'm reading too much into that statement, but it would be amazing if you could actually get lost in the exploration of space. I know real space is mind bogglingly vast and SC space is still pretty huge, but I would really like to see hundreds of multi-crew hours spent in exploration. Not only that, but actually entertaining hours. Not just some grind.

I want this game to be full. Statements like that really give me hope that SC is truly going to be the game we all hope it will be.

Carrack = Life (The best multi-player ship for those that are tired of constant pew pew - Escape the confines of all other MMOs)
[The RV Calypso of Star Citizen - remember Jacques-Yves Cousteau? Google them]

Freelancer DUR = Love (We all have to have a place to call Home)

Constellation Taurus = Liberty (Money Maker - CityBopper --- We have to pay expenses & discovery is not all 'out there')
[The long hauler --- explore new places - locate the hidden secrets - make Trillions of Credits - have FUN]

The 3 best ships in the 'Verse.

*** All others are for when you need that nostalgic fix of arcade MMO pew pew.
*** 315P is just plain FUN.

Wow. This is fabulous. I have always loved this ship and glad to see the predictions of many that it would grow in this phase proved true. I would note though, it has a Star Wars Jump to LightSpeed feel to it in that most of the rooms are unnecessarily large. The hallways are all much wider than they are tall, and if they have 8' ceilings, they're about 12' wide. They should have been 5' wide if what they wanted was a ship like real military ships. This lacks some realism.

I don't care. With everything bigger, the hangar will hopefully be bigger too, so hopefully you can fly a Raven, a dozen SEN, etc. off this thing. Just to remind, IIUC the best use of the hangar bay is not to carry a ship, but to support several ships by refueling, refitting, repairing, etc. For that you only need to fit one ship at a time (so long as they all have their own jump drives.) As with the Polaris, this should be able to support a decent size fleet of small ships.

What a kick. I can see a Carrack, a Polaris and a Star G going out together for months at a time exploring, with a couple dozen small ships flying support. If we can put NPC's in Sens and assign them coordinates to sweep in a given system, a crew flying this monster could be extremely productive.

Its not getting bigger to increase specs. Its getting bigger to fit the current stated specs that was promised at concept. Size of hangar and everything else is the same.

I kinda love the Hawk's intention. I feel like I want to smack someone that the vid says it has 6 weapons plus an EMP, and the new entry on the page says 4 weapons. Who's head is up their ass that they can't get stuff like this right? Don't they ever fire anyone at CIG for gross stupidity and incompetence?

Its got nothing to do with specs. It's got to do with the intentions of the artist. The extra room is supposedly in the walls, and that makes sense since they all have that hexagonal cut to them and stuff hanging on the sides--there is lots of wasted space in that, and the ship is 20% larger. The rooms can't be the same size and when you look at them, they are not reasonable size. They're huge.

Look at the room at time index 29:03. Looks like an assembly room like a galley/cafeteria to me, especially given the art work. You could easily assemble 50 people here. The hangar is bigger. Look at the pic at 29:27. It is the full width of a ship that is 20% bigger, so it is 20% bigger. Look at the hallways at 29:33. Even if you cut away the trapezoidal sections, the walkable floorspace is more than 10' across. The artists did this because it looks cool (and probably because they were not supervised correctly and are just building what they want.) Look at the hallway junction at 32:12. Does this look like a ship for 5 people to you? The Redeemer was built for 5 people and nearly all the floor space of that ship will fit in this hallway. Look at the hangar in 32:20. It is twice as long as the ship sitting in it, so at least 35 meters. It has indeed grown by 20% and should fit some new ships.

This is not a 5 person ship anymore. They may keep that requirement, but anyone walking around in it is going to feel it is a much larger than 5 person ship. It's the size of a Polaris and that is a 25 person ship. Why would 5 people need hallways the width of a standard bedroom? Hallways like this are designed for dozens or hundreds of people at a time.

I'm not complaining, but I think the price is going to go up and they're going to rate this for more than 5 people max. It's very possible you could use this to launch expeditionary combat forces, depending upon what you do with the modules (which were the plan from the start.)

This might seem stupid to some of you, but when they said that they had expanded things to best fit the concept & then mentioned an Escape craft / snub hanger, the 1st thing that came to mind was an MPUV Personnel.

"The ARGO Astronautics MPUV-1P (commonly ‘Argo Personnel.’) is geared towards a simple but incredibly important responsibility: moving groups of people from place to place. The UEE Navy uses MPUV-1Ps extensively, and any new recruit can likely recall those terrifying moments in which such a ship carried them to their first space assignment. In civilian hands, Argo Personnel ships are adapted for everything from standard taxi services to use as makeshift combat dropships. The ARGO is capable of carrying up to eight Humans and their equipment."

Most snub ships only carry 1 or 2 people at most. The new design might have the Carrack carrying up to 6-8 if it has a full crew. So if something went wrong, an MPUV Personnel could allow the entire crew to escape the ship together, then potentially head to a near by planet & land them safely. Afterall, Owls of a feather flock together & we are all OWL.

Actually, you have been proven correct already as the price went up from $350 to $400 already & I'm willing to bet that by the time the game goes fully live it will go up a lot more as more players begin purchasing them.

The carrack was built with the intention of doing deep space exploration while in a non claustrophobic environment as the crew can stay in space self sufficient for an extremely long time. As with other ship hangars (Eg: Polaris) there is also place to store supplies to restock and refuel as seen below.

There has been many photoshoped images showing more than 1 medium craft and larger being able to fit and tightly squeeze in the polaris hanger however this would only hamper and delay the maintenance process as its supposedly all done manually. Notice the cargo areas in hangar around the ship which would in all likelihood be for supplying ships parts, tools fuel etc. As they are building the carrak snub hangar around a merlin, I would not expect anything larger than a M50 to fit in without hampering maintenance and support.

The carrack crew max has been increased to 6. Life support is going to have a difficult time and will be stressed supporting a larger crew. The room that you indicated could be a type of conference or mapping room as there were other consoles and a podium in centre. It some sort of work room and serves some purpose just dont know what at the moment. The main hallways appear to be two person wide. It looks sufficient for people to traverse either way or even run to stay fit. Its not all that big and is what I would imagine a deep space explorer would be rather than a cramped submarine.

The ship hasn't gotten functionally bigger so much so as physically to fit say the drones, snub, modules, 1000 scu of space actual functional rooms etc. It still fits the components as listed and has not seen an upgrade to any component from L to C. Since its Anvil its employing design cues with the shape of the door and hallways lighting blue with red accents for areas of interest.

I have never seen anything about a "non claustrophobic environment". I think they just made the rooms too big because that is the kind of mistake artists make that engineers do not. Had they checked they would have noted you don't need nor want 20' of room space across a med bay with just 4 beds.

The Reliant Sen will not fit the old Carrack. They will certainly fit the new Carrack.
The main hallways appear to be two person wide.
Subs have two person wide walkways. These are more than three times as wide.
The ship hasn't gotten functionally bigger
You didn't listen to what they said. They added the 20% increase in size because they added 2 meters in almost every interior wall. The outcome of this is that some rooms will necessarily be larger, such as the hangar which extends port to starboard with no interior walls.

I'm not complaining. I like the new Carrack much better and was hoping for a bigger hangar!

A 2 crew member width space for a corridor is not overtly wide.

Making the rooms too big is something I will have to see when we have more rendered images of the ship and its interiors as they said the walls are layered. They could easily fill the rooms with stuff depending on function and aesthetics. Not all rooms will share the same size.

Fitting a reliant Sen in the hangar is highly improbable. That would mean that the Hangar can carry a gladius and maybe even a Sabre and that is something CIG will never allow as this then becomes the only non capital ship other than a Crucible to have the capability of carrying a full size small ship.

Yes well, the Hangar looks 35 meters long at the least. It will now fit almost every fighter, but it is the size of a cap ship (if you consider Corvettes to be caps) so probably should have bigger guns, larger crew requirement and can service/carry all small ships. This is a big deal, that it is now the size of a Corvette. I would bet they push this to $525-$550.
